Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

I disagree with it being poor, it adds variety in many ways being night, A/C, a city circuit and it's a great event. You get to see lots of "incidents" due to the drivers having to wring every last tenth from the cars. Its more of an event than a race - much like Monaco is. It's not going to be the best racetrack because its a city centre first and a racetrack second for about 5 days of the year.

They just need to open it up a bit, take out that stupid chicane, and make it a bit more competitive. Hopefully DRS will help - I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Anyways heres some pics from when I was there last year - picture quality isn't great but it's pretty much the worst conditions for motion photography and I'm no pro:

thankfully even if JB does start badly he is still well capable of outracing Lewis and getting to the flag 1st (as has already happened numerous times this season)

I'm pretty sure that Alonso, Lewis, JB maybe even Rosberg would have got similar results as Vettel in this seasons RB , the car is just that good compared to the rest

Vettel will win the race today - I reckon the championship will go to the next race. Hamilton will beat Button in the championship (not that anything other than 1st place matters).

Shame none of the other teams can catch RB without copying them. Hats of to McLaren for trying a new design at the start of the season.

The reason for this is that they are closer to the edge of the envelope and there is less margin for error. Vettel is able to get right to the edge of the envelope and make no mistakes. And he seems to do this in almost all the races.

I would argue that Vettel has very very rarely put that car on the edge during the race. And on at least one occasion when he did put it right on the edge because he was getting caught he binned it.

Hamilton, Button, Alonso and Webber are all having to put their car on the edge far more often because of a slower car or lack of ability in the same car.

Vettel is a good driver. He is a great 1 lap specialist and he is fantastic at leading from the front in a car faster than everyone elses save for his team mate who, everyone agrees, isn't a patch on Vettel, Hamilton or Alonso.

In all honesty I don't know how you can say much more than that after 2 years of utter dominance. Had MSc been in a dominant car at that age then he would have won more, of that I have no doubt.

I honestly think that if you had Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel in the same car with no driver being favoured over another, Vettel would come third on points over a season out of the three. I wouldn't want to pick 1st and 2nd.

At the end of the day it's not Vettels fault that his car is better than his competition and I like the guy as a person unlike some who for some reason hate him. He just goes out there and does his job. But to wax lyrical about how fantastic he is when the reality is that he hasn't had a title challenger in the 2 years he has won the title (because lets be honest, this years is his) is going over the top.

I know you are convinced you are right and that everyone else is wrong. And I know that the pundits and stuff are saying he is the second coming. But we are all entitled to our opinions and we can only judge on what we have seen and what we know. We don't know Vettel like DC does, but we are also allowed to voice our full opinions a little more freely than the pundits who would be met with scorn and anger if they said anything other than "he has won by a million points and I want his babies".

I'd love to see Hamilton or Alonso into he same team as Vettel. If he could beat them in the same car then fair play to him, he is a fantastic driver worthy of the title. All the time he is playing with a stacked deck however I find it difficult to ever get excited by anything he does outside of Qualifying.

And thats the bottom line, because Todge says so :p

Don't suppose anyone knows a way of watching qaUlifying on an ipad with no wifi?
Ie no flash and iplayer requires wifi for some stupid reason.

most circuits are clockwise, well the supposed great circuits are!

More strain on the "weaker" park of the neck, so harder on the driver.

Which makes no odds about it being a good track to watch which is what was being discussed at the time?
As per the drivers point of view, last time I checked they all quite liked Turkey and Brazil ;)

Monaco certainly is. But I like differing circuits. I don't think every track needs to be an out and out racer track. Monaco is a huge challenge and I love that aspect of it. Especially with normal tracks getting ever larger run offs.
A calendar should contain a range of differing circuits.

Singapore is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, the track is pretty crap and I shouldn't like it as an F1 fan probably but it does look damn cool all lit up and in the Singapore skyline!

Valencia on the other hand has no such redeeming features and would be my first track in the bin if I ran F1!

I think they should stop trying to 'glamour' up F1 and ditch all these ridiculous street circuits.

Who actually thinks Valencia, Singapore and Monaco are good tracks for racing?

I just think they should try and keep the glamour but design these street tracks a little better. I like to see the cars kissing the barrier and whizzing down streets under the lights. The problem is that thus far there hasn't been a city street track with the specific requirements needed to make overtaking as likely to happen as it is at other tracks. I don't see why you couldn't have both.

Same here really. I enjoy watching the cars around Singapore as it just looks nice under the lights, especially with the sparks from the undersides of the cars :)

It's a shame so much of the track actually has kerbs on the outside stopping them running right up against the wall all the time - it's what makes Monaco so exciting :D

Have to agree with you both. I like it personally, bar those silly kerbs.
