Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

Sooo looking forward to the F1 GP today. Vetty will probably win it but if Butty beats Hammy and Webby I'll be happy :)

I think they should stop trying to 'glamour' up F1 and ditch all these ridiculous street circuits.

Who actually thinks Valencia, Singapore and Monaco are good tracks for racing?

The one thing I still like about Monaco still is that it doesn't have huge run off areas everywhere, it really pushes a driver to the limits mentally. Most of the other tracks today have huge run offs EVERYWHERE so when a driver makes a mistake he just runs wide onto the run off area, floors the accelerator to make up time and carries on without losing any time whatsoever.

Bring back the gravel traps I say, they served a purpose of punishing drivers with time penalties (or retirement) for making mistakes.

Don't think Vettel will wrap it up today, in fact, it's about time he binned it. 7/1 on him not finishing the race, I fancy a cheeky quid on that.

A dnf for Vettel would extend interest in the championship for a bit longer so perhaps Bernie has given RBR a few hints ;)

the reason gravel taps are slowly being removed was made very clear on the nurburgring (i think it was there) when someone went very quickly across the gravel sideways and the car very nearly flipped over. if the car was going much faster (as is possible in quite a lot of places, it would have flipped and would have potentially been a massive accident

tarmac isnt the greatest solution, but its safer than gravel

Well you're always going to get freak accidents, Webber's car touched a back marker and did a backflip the other year should we ban all racing?

It just strikes me as rubbish that the supposed pinnacle of racing is giving drivers get out of jail free cards for when they make errors. It still makes my blood boil when two cars are racing and the car in front makes an error at a chicane and so he cuts it to avoid being overtaken. Or when the car behind makes a mistake at a chicane and he cuts it to rejoin right on the gearbox of the guy in front.

maybe tarmac with an inch or two of gravel on top instead of a full beach? It wouldn't cause a car to dig in and flip but it would still slow them down and prevent them from getting away with running off track. Plus they would be less likely to get completely stuck in the trap like a standard gravel run off. Plus easy to clean up.

Surely a thin layer of gravel on top of tarmac would be even more dangerous because the gravel will act like marbles and reduce drag?

im sure someone will turn it around on him.

isnt that the first time in a long time brundle has talked to hamilton on the grid?

Yeah don't think he's spoken to Hammy for a long time. Guess he asked if he could speak today because of his helmet tribute.

Here we go Tanya and MB wars :D
