Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

Ididnt know these two things.

Vetted was the only one to accept an invite from perreli to test the new tyres out, after vetted went MSC accepted as well, no other driver did. WTF.
Also Vettel won't bring. His Gf to a race, he says you wouldn't take your wife to work in an office.

Think those two show that he's dedicated, more than most.

That's sacrificing fun and "look I'm showing off" for the sake of being one of the legends of the sport. Nothing wrong with that at all, he could be absolutely amazing...

I like the way he always checks out the stats and things at the end of the races as well, asking questions about the opposition's car immediately before setting foot onto the podium's top spot.

That kind of focus is just epic.

I knew about the Pirelli visit. Didn't know Schumacher went along afterwards. Bit silly that really. New tyre manufacturer means that so much will change; I'm surprised the likes of Alonso/Button/Hamilton didn't go along as well.

Not surprised about Vettel not bringing his GF to the races; less to concentrate on. Does show his dedication to the cause. Plus I'm sure Red Bull employ enough totty to keep him awake during the boring practice sessions. ;)

Vettel is like a machine.

A lot of people berate his time trialling style, but time trialling is not an easy thing to do. I actually find it easier to concentrate on racing a car when I have other cars around me. When I'm out in front with nothing to aim at, my concentration can wane and mistakes creep in.

I'm not sure what other people find easier.

MSc was the other driver I admired, in that I never ever heard of him going around with different ladies. He got married before he won his 2nd WDC and then stuck with her throughout. I believe this provided him with a lot of stability.

Vettel is like MSc, mark 2.

1st I was very surprised at (and wonder if all drivers actually got an invite, which has never been stated as far as I know)

Latter personally is mumbo jumbo - g/f's /wives / families have always been present around drivers (and in a sense F1 is STILL about glamour and always will be), F1 isnt a normal office job either (unless you get filmed for a living I guess lol), has never stopped other drivers from being viewed as supremely gifted (if not more so) amongst their peers on the f1 grid at the time (Stewart, Fangio , G.Hill or Clark) - dedicated....or dispassionate

There is a lot of skill in being able to launch off at the start of the race and set a first lap time 1-2 seconds quicker than everyone else.

being at the right place, at the right time with the right equipment counts for more in this case

He is a very good driver, made to look brilliant by an exceptional car - and the timing will have been helped by the driver "starting" 2nd and finishing in that spot being badly affected by a stomach problem evening before / on the morning of the race...... and he STILL beat everyone else apart from the car of the season

Would have to agree with that.

Erm...Vettel has been doing the "get pole, get a great start, lead the entire race" thing for pretty much the whole season (and the back end of last season). Singapore was just one race.

i know its nothing like racing real cars in a real race, but in the long races in forza 3 i am similar to hamilton. if i am in the lead i can happily sail round the track for lap after lap without any problems, but if i am losing i will almost certainly race too hard trying to catch up, and am quite likely to botch up an overtaking opportunity

It's all about the tyres this season boys n girls...
Vettel is better than Webber. Alonso is better than Massa. Button (currently) is better than Hamilton. All these statement are working because the driver who is doing better is getting more from the tyres. Webber chews his tyres up quicker and loses out, some of that is because Vettel is long gone and can pace himself. Alonso the same, though the ferrari is pants the harder the compound the slower it is...and Button showed what pacing himself can do when he breezed past Hamilton and Schumacher because he'd looked after his tyres better. It's that simple!
