Singapore Grand Prix 2013, Marina Bay - Race 13/19

The Benson bit is true - talk about **** stirring on Whitmarsh's words - MW is right too - who wouldn't want Alonso - but that doesn't mean they are definitely trying to poach him for next year... but this ...

Alonso earns a reputed 28m euros (£23.6m) at Ferrari but if he moved his salary would present no problem for McLaren as he would be accompanied to the team by the Spanish bank Santander, who would cover his wages.

Whether or not Mclaren *could* afford to to pay the buyout clause - I think they would, and could, if they really wanted him.

Neale has stated today or yesterday that they want the strongest line up on the grid and tbf Button and Alonso would be mighty.

But is McLarens future funded by Perez? If so, Alonso moving there would mean replacing Button.

Straight swap between the 2?

My god, how do people listen/watch the BBC any more? Ben Edwards is going on and on and on about how this year the cars are so much quicker than last year, how they have moved on and are back to faster than the full EBD years, blah blah blah.

Completely forgetting the fact the turn 10 changes have made this track significantly faster, and last years times are not comparable

Oh dear. Amateur hour. Someone should tell him.

I thought the cars are now at a point generally were they are quicker than last year, I'm sure I've heard that mentioned in previous races?
The losses of EBD have been clawed back by and large. It's one of the reasons McLaren gave to those saying they should switch cars.

But yeah, if he's directly comparing Singa '12 to Singa '13 he's a numpty.

Are Mclaren a poor company or something? Can't they have two non-pay drivers in the team?

It was the "OMG Bottas goes 2 seconds quicker than Vettel did in P1 last year!!!!!!!1111111ONE" comments that wound me up.

Ted kravitz: I bet adrian newey is thinking about how a manta ray or a fish can help with aerodynamics. That's the kind of thing he thinks ahout.

LOL

Depends on your definition of poor :p, but they are not rolling around in cash. They cut both Hamilton and Buttons pay (and lost Hamilton because of it), Vodafone are out and they are looking for new sponsors, Whitmarsh has openly said McLaren are tight on finances, and there are heavy rumors the Perez was signed for his money connections.

So while they aren't eating cold beans and stale bread, paying wages for both Button and Alonso and also buying out Alonsos contract at Ferrari may be a stretch for them. If Santander came with Alonso it would help.

I do think its funny that as soon as Alonso gets a decent team mate the rumours start about him jumping ship, and even more funny that they are about jumping into the team where his issues with competitive team mates first started :p

The thing is there are only 3 non-paid drivers in F1 that are any good Lewis\Alonso\Kimi vimto is still a unknown in a crap car.

Lewis and Kimi are sorted so there is only Alonso to go for. McLaren should have gone for De Resta not perez.

LOL!

3 (4) WDCs, still not any good

The OcUK merit system, where winning means your crap!

As I said he is unknown in a crap car unlike Lewis\Alonso\Kimi who can drag a crap car up to the front.

That's why they are wanted\paid more then any other driver ;)

Since when did Lewis drag a crap car to the front? He only just won his wdc cos Glock went slow on purpose.

Unless the front doesn't mean 1st place in the championship in your skewed and strange little world.

What did he achieve in his other years? Oh yeah, getting beat by Jenson. Cheers.

The same crap driver that when driving a Toro Rosso scored points in 7 of the last 9 races and won a race for them? Oh yeah, that one. But no doubt you'll give the 'it's the car' bs there despite outscoring his equally inexperienced team-mate almost 8-fold.

If you really don't know the answer to that I should take up knitting. And as you've been told button only beat Lewis
once and that was in his worse ever season :) Who you going to back when button leaves F1?

I have even come round to admitting Vettel is a brilliant driver, also very lucky.

But i do believe Hamilton is now the best driver in F1, but very unlucky.

My list would go:

Hamilton
Alonso
Vettel (Vettel as a champion in a struggling car is what we all need to see to change this to the top)

KR is a good driver but he kind of reminds me of Nick Heidfeld, good at bringing a car home and keeping up the field.

It is a bit of a shame for Vettel that 2011 appeared so easy that people forget that his other titles were properly hard fought.

He only lead the 2010 WDC once, right at the end. And in 2012 he overturned Alonso's massive lead in a car with imploding alternators.

And you don't drive away from everyone at 1 second a lap without being a bit good.
