Singapore Grand Prix 2014, Singapore - Race 14/19

The drivers are going to be in a kind of hell if it's properly wet at any point. It's horrible biking at night with steady rain and frequent lights. I'd go as far as saying it would be unsafe if they didn't use lights designed to direct away from the racing line, but with the number of lights in Singapore anyway it wouldn't be much fun.

The brand new, billiard smooth visors would help though I guess. Such luxuries us mere mortals can't justify.

It was damp at the start of one of the free practice sessions last year I think it was, but it wasn't soaking and dried very quickly.
 
Can't say I recall any damp sessions at Singapore. Would be pretty interesting to see how it panned out if it did rain during the race, however I expect it would just become endless safety car lapping like that race a few years ago in Korea.
 
I want to see 17 drivers given grid penalties because their engineers told them competitors split times, 12 drivers given drive throughs in the race for mentioning tyre wear on the radio, and the entire result to be protested as 7 teams lodge appeals based on full reviews of the transcripts of all other teams radios that they haven't yet had time to review.
 
Ugh, this is going to be a disaster I can feel it

Is it possible that this race could be completely decided by this?
It leaves the door wide open for inconsistent penalty application - something that never goes down well

It most certainly will be decided by it. It's going to be no where near as accurate for which modes they should be in, a driver could easily run harder than he should so I imagine they are going to have to over fuel by a margin. I would not be surprised to see a car run out.

Imagine Rosberg and Lewis going for it head to head. They have no way to get them racing but on a mode for power/fuel that sees them to the end. It's not like either driver would slow. I see the only option for mercedes is to bring in a team order where the driver leading to the first stop wins, then they manage the race.
 
It's not like strategy hasn't been misused even with all the information they've had. :rolleyes:

They've got all the info on the wheel regarding fuel usage and such, so that's not a gamble. In clear air, turn it up. In traffic with no way past, turn it down. It might be marginal here anyway given the stop-start nature of the track and length of race.

Tyres are easy enough to manage as that will be discussed after the Friday long runs.

They're not going in blind, they just don't have as many databases whirring away as they normally would.

The fastest car/driver combination will most likely still win (though you have to assume Red Bull will be much closer here due to the nature of the track), but it's a street course, so getting mired in the pack can still kill your race.

Remember though that pit-strategy can still be discussed, so teams can still filter drivers back into space where possible and give gaps and so on.
 
I was stood on the track two weeks ago :s

Doubt very much it'll rain, was only a quick thunderstorm mid morning daily when we were there, can't see it changing much from that.
 
This is going to far now.

The only ones that concern me are the restrictions on brake and tyre condition. They say they want to retain the safety elements, but we've seen what happens when the brakes aren't in their operating window at the first corner. Japan should be interesting if the rule is still enforced by then.
