Singapore Grand Prix 2014, Singapore - Race 14/19

I talked to a mate who is still in F1 and he said Merc and other teams use different sounds sent from the pit wall to tell the driver things.

Wonder if the FIA will ban that as well?

****ing FIA **** me of. Why couldn't this retarded decision be put in force for next season? Are teams really held hostage by them?

Yes. There is zero consultation on sporting regulations. The FIA decide what they want and then publish it as the rules. That's it, teams just have to suck it up.

Presumably yes, under the banning of coded messages.

They could do a roadrunner 'beep beep' for engine start settings. Or play a riff from 'Can't Touch This' for hammer time. Sizzling bacon for an overheating engine. A donkey sound if the pace is too slow. The possibilities are endless :D

different sounds like words?

"For example, drivers already hear audio tones which tell them when the lift the throttle when heading into braking zones in order to optimise their fuel saving."

"There appears to be nothing in the rules clarification to stop teams from extending this practice and creating a range of alarms for other warnings – such as poor fuel economy, low battery charge and so on"

Presumably they would be pre defined alarms sent to the drivers earphones directly from the cars ECU. That's fine. The car is allowed to 'tell' the driver anything, its messages from the team that are banned.

So Rosberg saying he spent the day in the simulator learning a bunch of new procedures and also racing without an engineer in his ear... certainly sounds like they won't be using any of those steering wheel controls

It's just going to be a big mess

I can see it now
Driver x gets a penalty For a coded message
Driver y doesn't
Forum bitching and moaning

You've clearly not understood my point, but there's no need to keep pointing that out to people.

It's going to be so difficult to enforce, I cannot see it working very well.

Will be interesting to see which drivers can adapt more than others though (if it comes to that)... It's not like they don't have enough to be thinking about though, especially in Singapore with that heat and duration!

"I think none of the drivers want it (radio). They are all happy that it has gone.

"They drive the cars, they should know what is wrong or right. They don't need someone on the pit wall telling them what to do."

Yes, this is why we always hear the drivers asking for info I guess
