** Single, Dual & Triple Card 7970 - BATTLEFIELD 3 - HIGH RESOLUTION BENCHMARKS **

First of all, great work in doing this. You guys must have had a great Christmas break in the labs!

What I want to know is what is gaming like on these dell 1600p screens? I've had some pretty good monitors in the past, but I don't think I could go back to anything over 2ms response time.

Also I'm pretty fond of 120hz...with bfbc2 it was awesome, with bf3 I guess it matters less as my gfx (5970) cant really drive that fps level.

So what screens are peeps currently buying for hi res gaming...just in case I want to upgrade my monitor too ;-)

ever get the feeling your being fooled by the graphics card manufacturers they keep milking us for every penny, why cant they make a faster single card yet still we are being forced to buy multiple cards to keep our frames up with newer games

for the money you cant beat hazro h27wc just got one a couple of days ago and the difference from 1080p is vast

End of the day Tri-fire is going to set you back best part of 1500 quid, ask your self is it worth it?

Hmmm the single card performance at 2560x1600 seems somewhat lacklustre especially if it is overclocked at 1100 on the core.

For a bit of fun I attempted to run all Ultra settings with 4xAA at 3560x1920 on my single HD6970 (stock clocks @ 880/5500). The results were between 15 and 20fps average (oddly not dipping below 15fps). The game was an unplayable stuttery mess as I had run out of Vram (afterburner reading of 2033MB which allowing for a slight overhead means 2GB isn't enough).

Dropping the res to 2560x1600 would probably yield in the region of 20-25fps which isn't *that* much lower than the overclocked HD7970.

bf3 tbh poor bad coded game for what it is. some wont agree but it is.

I agree with you mate. ;)

I spent loads of hours over years with BF2 which was a great game at the time. I don't think I will be doing the same with BF3 (which is a shame).

BF3 is not quite as good as it could be (in some ways I prefer BFBC2), I just hope that EA's next one will be better.

BFBC3 perhaps? :D

think this shows what a good card for the money the 6970 is tbh with bf3 (@1080).

level with 580 gtx with same settings but a lot cheaper.

think a lot will just get 2 similar cards and run them instead of these new cards.

I must admit a second HD6970 is looking much more attractive at the moment than the HD7970 for my Eyefinity resolution.

Looks like I will need atleast the equivalent of 7970 Crossfire if I wanted to max out BF3 in 3D...

Anyone want to buy a Kidney... or maybe a Lung?

graphs are up

bit of a rush job but I havent got any more time to dedicate to it today guys.

Thanks for your work man - much appreciated.

Soo... it appears to me that SLi 3GB GTX 580's are pretty much on a par (2fps faster) than 7970's Crossfired in BF3 at the res's I play at.

There are some discrepancies with mins although some of the max's are higher with the green camp, however I'd go out on a limb and say for this title anyway, we're pretty much about evens. I only play BF3, so for me it quite simply seems like I'll be waiting for Kepler, unless AMD pursue some pretty aggressive pricing (which it appears they've already ruled out), or revisit their drivers/game profiles for BF3 which gives these cards the "20-30% increase" they seemingly have over Nvidia in other games.

Even still, 20-30% still seems weak for these cards at this price. 50% over the 580 is something people would snap at I feel, however at the relative cost the fabled AMD "bang for buck" isn't there - at least for this game.
