Six Nations 2016

France looked like the most exciting team in the world for 5mins, glad they couldn't keep up the intensity for the full match. A great win for Scotland and just what we needed.

Francis suspended for 8 weeks, think he got lucky with that tbh.

Glad we held on at the end, but another yellow card needs to be looked at, just surprised it wasn't Haskell as per normal :p!

England Start with Mako and Care, good choice to England on the front foot and ship the ball quickly away from the contact area.

England: M Brown, A Watson, J Joseph, O Farrell, J Nowell, G Ford, D Care, M Vunipola, D Hartley, D Cole, M Itoje, G Kruis, C Robshaw, J Haskell, B Vunipola.

Replacements: L Cowan-Dickie, J Marler, K Brookes, J Launchbury, J Clifford, B Youngs, M Tuilagi, E Daly.

Marler gets away with it for both the citing and the 'Gypsy Boy' comments. Personally he should have got a 1 week for the strike and the book should have been thrown at him for goading Lee the way he did.

I hope he's buying a lottery ticket this week (if that doesn't constitute unacceptable gambling). He's a very lucky boy to get away with two offences in the same match, either of which should have resulted in a suspension.

It's a bit unfortunate that both Eddie Jones and Warren Gatland both initially called it "banter" - I can see why they would try to minimise the offence and not make it into a big deal but it doesn't set a good example if rugby is serious about tackling offensive or derogatory language.

Still that aside I'm really looking forward to the final games, there are still some good match-ups and for once I can look forward to Scotland not receiving the Wooden Spoon.

I think Scotland will get one over on the Irish semi-pro, now they've got the monkey off their back I fully expect them to open up on Ireland and fulfill some of the potential they've shown.

Will definitely be a cracking last weekend.

Very true and good of Eddie to say:

Lancaster has a great record developing and nurturing young players to begin to fulfill their potential, his problem was he just didn't know how to move them onto the next level, I have to admit that I mostly blame Andy Farrell for the woes of the last regime, his character was to strong for Lancaster and his systems were a handicap to a talented group of players.

Talking of systems I think that is the one real noticeable thing of the new EJ England, the lack of obvious systems, it's great, a real breath of fresh air, players are being coached to play what's in front of them and go off the cuff if needs be. It will only get more fluid as the players bed into the concept and the combinations become more comfortable with each other, it's been most obvious with Owen Farrell, he's really grown as a 12 and is actually having a storming 6N even if slightly off the radar thanks to stand out performances from other players, his consistency has been near perfect and his feed and switch plays from 12 have been instrumental in more than one England try.

**Edit....
In fact to back up my point above; in an interview article on Planet Rugby about the French game EJ says:

Eddie Jones said:
We can’t plan how we want to attack against them. We’ve got to be very adaptive on the field and George and Owen will have to think on their feet, find out where the space is and use it.

How very un-European Rugby ;) :p

If I was Italian I'd feel slightly hard done by with the first try when as Jonathan Davies rightly pointed out Wales were way offside at the kick preceding it so it should have been an Italian penalty and then the referee looked as if he got in the way a bit when Wales went over. As I don't have a huge interest in the outcome of the game I was hoping for a bit more of a contest than we've had so far.

That was a hideous game, shame about the poor officiating.
I think the ref should be retired tbh, he shouldn't have returned.
Harsh yellows, a try that was offside.
An utter touncing.
At least he managed to soend two minutes at the end deciding if he should kick off again or not...... Reffing where it is important.

I'd have to agree, I wasn't all that impressed with the ref and if I was Italian I'd be even less happy. Wales were clearly the better side and deserved to win by a big margin but I couldn't help feeling a bit sorry for Italy with all their injuries, they still tried hard but just don't have the quality of back up necessary to make it properly competitive.

In fact just watching the next match and already Ireland have had a penalty given which seemed harsh on Scotland. Some of the reffing this 6 Nations has been a bit questionable if I'm being generous.
