Six terrible graphical effects that need to stop

FXAA is the best thing that happened to games in recent years, for games that don't support MSAA/CSAA/TXAA and where your gpu isn't comfortable with supersampling, I hate jaggies, they make me want to stab my eyes out.

I always use at least 4x MSAA and FXAA when possible.

I mean come on:

How can you find the non FXAA version better  ?

I couldn't play using FXAA because it nerfs the viewing distance.

I have been playing GTAV with DOF turned right up and I quite like it - although....it can affect some deathmatches where the game has to think about where my characters focus should actually be so I may turn it down.

I was playing ut3 today for a bit of fun and almost everything bad mentioned in this thread is in that game. Bloom/motion blur etc haha

V sync adds too much lag for me (feels horrendous in some games) so I lap up that tearing :p

Maybe one day I'll try G-Sync/equivalent...

Try running in borderless windowed mode. Helps get rid of screen tear for me. Only issue is quite a few games don't have the option to but there are other ways around it too.

Another vote for motion blur, it gets turned off in most games or turned to the very lowest setting. A tiny bit of motion blur can look good but mostly they go way overboard I really don't get it.

High fps... I know this isn't an effect but it does effect what your seeing. In some games high fps makes movement seem very unnatural, mainly in racing sim games anything over 60fps makes things seem like there running in fast forward at times and the games are supposed to mimic real life!

DOF is terrible to play with, it's nice for screenshots but it isn't natural while playing.

motion blur is ok if there is a slider setting for it, i don't mind a little bit of it.

I like them. Alien Isolation looked great CA :D I like a bit of DoF in Skyrim and stalker, particularly when it's poor weather. It may not be realistic, but it adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel more realistic to me.
