I just got back from a week. The snow was falling like MAD on Saturday when we were leaving. Gutting to miss that but it was a good week. Warm for the time of year but snow was so so. Needs a good few feet dump really in most places for a nice base but keeps going cold > warm etc. which is a nightmare for the base.

It's in Abondance, just down from Chatel. It has it's own small ski region not linked, but we drive up to Pre La Joux (25min in the morning/snow) as that's obviously linked to the PdS.
Local restaurants and shops all 2 mins from apartment.

If you need hire stuff as well, I have a 20% discount up at Trincaz sports in la Chapelle too. :)

Semi random aside; I spoke to Oakley, as I have had my A frames for like 8yrs and I wanted to replace the foam and buy a few replacement straps as the harsh cold stretches the strap elastic and having spares is handy. They said they carry no spares at all for the goggles and I'd have to buy a new pair!
Was slightly annoyed as I have 5 sets of lenses for them and I wasn't asking for a miracle, just straps. Which they offer an array of if you're customising your goggles, so they obviously have access to some. I said I wasn't happy though and they did offer me 40% off a new set of A frames, so I suppose I'll pick a new frame today, but still annoying. Thought they'd be easier than that.
 
Would have it I hadn't got so many lenses it would make useless :( I do love my Oakleys mind, just found the aftercare worse than I used to get (but they've been bought by some super giant now haven't they?).

Bah.
 
Just booked myself a latest minute solo holiday to La Plagne. My usual skiing buddies either didn't have the funds or holidays, but I couldn't not go this year! Going with a company called Action Outdoors, who book through the UCPA, looks like a pretty decent way of getting a solo holiday together with a good social scene. Not a bad price either, as solo supplement makes a lot of places waaay too expensive.

Cannot wait, having half day tuition most days, never had this before, so will be good to see what level I'm up to. I definitely need some improvement on my technique though. Hopefully there is going to be a bit more snow before I head out (Saturday), so I can experience decent snow.

You're braver than I am! Good luck with this and enjoy! Are you staying in some sort of catered chalet? I stayed in one last year and it was great! :)

If your chalet staff are half decent they will sort out the pass for you, in fact most insist on it and normally you get a 10-20 EUROS off.

For Tignes the pass price depends if you want to go up on Val d’Isère or not, basically if your there for a week you do, since its bigger and relatively easy to get to on bus or ski lifts.
Also if you are arriving later in the day when you land (dont forget it takes 3+ hours transfer) DONT get a ski pass for that day as there are 5 free beginner lifts that will be more than enough for a couple of hours.

Thanks! It's more like the YHA with youth hostels I think. The UCPA own a fair number of buildings around the country at different resorts, from twin rooms to bigger dorm type rooms. They usually have a cafeteria type set-up for food, I believe, but each resort is different. As long as I have somewhere to sleep and food in my belly, I'll be happy.
 
Might be a waste of time but if one of us finds a decent deal in a resort then its worthwhile.

I will happily update the OP with any other deals/accomodation you have come across. I am currently looking for somewhere to go this new year.. :)

Thought it might be an idea to share any cheap accomodation that we have stayed in or managed to find. Might be helpful as I find searching for accomodation a nightmare with just a handful of places offering packages only.

We always self drive and as of yet have not come up over £600 per person including accomodation, lift passes, equipment hire (now have my own board and boots however) + travel.

Great Location next to all the bars in VT, 30-40 steps from the slopes or there is a black run that takes you right next to the accomodation.
Price (for the apartment NOT per person) - Between £420 - £800 depending on time of year. We paid £550 in April half term last year

Would certainly recommend, and our view from the glazed balcony :



Perfect for anyone looking for a cheap apartment and looking to keep the costs down.

I have booked Val t with these and can't wait. I'm the same going alone as my friends are not interested. :) sure you will have a blast make sure you do a review and get some pics!

I can see the Frog and Roast Beef from there!!! Last year I stayed in the Chalet that's up the top of that road, next to a Pub a little further up?

This year I'll be in the Tikal appartments, a little further down the resort. Can't. Bloomin. Wait!
 


Oakley just called me about my replacements, so I got these. Will give the lenses to the Mrs who has only got the standard orange. Only 80EUR instead of 130, so not too bad. She needed some new lenses anyway.

Scrap that, I'm now off to Tignes!

Does anyone who's been to Tignes before have any tips or advice, good bars, pubs, restaurants etc?

Can honestly say, it is one of my favourite places!! Views are breath taking, the mountains are huge and so muc choice/selection!! Highly recommended :)
