Sking/Snowboarding 09/10

Certainly finishing the season here, in fact, I'd do another if I could but alas visas and all that boring stuff is getting in the way.

I've heard the three valleys is good, or should I consider a lesser resort?

Le Trois Vallees is indeed good, not sure what it would be like for a season as I've not been there for that long but I'd imagine it would be quite entertaining. I think Will Gill might have done a few seasons there so you could try asking him and see if he has any advice for you.

Heading to Serre Chevalier in 3 weeks.

Had to get new bindings as I broke my trusty Salomon SPX Pro's last year in Austria.

Replaced with some Salomon Chiefs I picked up new and on the cheap.

Set up is now the above, Salomon Malamute boots and a 06/07 K2 Eldorado.

Really want to try some of this rocker stuff, though the K2 Flatline stuff looks the most appealing.

What's the road like up to it? I live very near by, and keep meaning to go along, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get up there.

edit: Just had a look at the website, and it says the road from Alston is clear, so that's fine. The only problem is I hate the tow they've got there, I kept coming off it, even though I'm perfectly capable of using all the other tows elsewhere. Maybe it's just me:(

When I went (28th iirc) it wasn't too bad (I went from Barnard Castle, so whichever way that is lol), bit slushy the last couple of miles and it never got higher than -3 according to my car, but yesterday I read that it was only suitable for 4x4s for the last 2 miles coming from the Durham side. If the snow is good I'll be going again this week before going back to uni - can't let the opportunity pass!

The tow is a pain though I agree, though I got used to catching a couple of feet of air after setting off after a while :o

Three Valleys is great, my favourite ski area - you could try Portes Du Soleil? Right on the Swiss border so plenty of places to go if you don't fancy skiing one day.

Just got back from a week in Stubai in Austria.

Flippin' awesome. Took me a couple of days to get used to carvers, as I was taught and spent my youth learning to ski on non elliptical skis (straight skis), however got into the swing of things by day 3 and for the rest of the holiday spent a good 6hrs a day skiing my arse off. Half a dozen 10km descents, from 3210m to 1700m was good fun, some exciting off piste and black runs under my belt and feeling good.

MY knees and thighs are shot, and I have 2 massive blisters - but I feel gooooood! :D

Modern skis are fun - you can really get some speed on the turns! Goodbye parallel turns eh?! :D

Can't wait to go again in 7 weeks!

Yeah, I want to try and get up there before heading back to uni as well, but I couldn't even drive to a friends house nearby yesterday, so I don't think I'll risk it unless the roads clear up.

Was in Serre Chevalier last year - had great fun and thanks to the recession it was almost dead.

Alp D'Huez for me in 2 weeks. Some friends own a chalet there so get to stay for free - been there a few times before. Good resort, the only problem is on powder days the locals from Grenoble all take the day off work and ruin everything. Locals should be banned tbh ;)

One week until I got to La Plagne, can't wait :)

Just been snowboarding down the field behind my house, not very steep though so very tiring! Plus my dog keeps trying to bite my ankles.

Outrageous amount of powder in the Milky way over the last couple of days I was there last week.... it was literally waist high.

Tasty amount of off piste on crazy powder, it was a real hoot. Very jealous of anyone going out there this week, that much snow followed by supposedly sunny weather this week, doesn't get much better than that.

Spent last season in Courchevel 1550. Had a really good time and I really rate the terrain there, some really good long fun runs to be found. Have holidayed there a couple of times also and did a bit in the other valleys which are also pretty good. Went to Courchevel just before Christmas this year for 4 days and had a good time with some of my beginner friends.

Holy ****, 80cm fresh powder and the alpine opened today with clear skys and sun. Had an insane couple of lines off the peak but the crowds got too much for me - I think there must have been 30,000 people on the hill today, not a parking spot within 2 miles of the gondi's.

I wonder what the Olympics will do for numbers, I'm hoping it scares folk off

Amazing. I was there this time last year and it was quiet, mainly due to awful snow conditions.

I miss Whistler though. It's definitely my favourite ski destination outside Europe.
