Skoda

According to my dealer there is a 4x4 petrol with 280hp due later this year ?

There has been no confirmation at all that Skoda are getting that engine. Feeling is that as VW already see every Skoda sale as a lost VW sale, it may well never happen.

No idea not something I'm interested in so did not ask much. I'm more than happy with the power of the Diesel.....

My dad has a MK1 diesel Octavia. The bonnet release has broken and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how we could get the bonnet open?

I've has my hand in from the bottom of the car, but have no idea what I'm feeling for. A picture of someones mk1 bonnet release mechanism might help too

I've been window shopping for the past 6 months or so and sadly in the local used market the 1.4TSI (preferred choice) is much less common than diesel engine on the estates, and thus tends to work out more expensive to purchase (depending on state of the market at any given time).

For example if I search Autotrader for Elegance trim up to 3 years old, there is only a single TSI in the whole country priced under £16.49k, compared to the whole first page of diesels being under £12.5k. Not suggesting they are directly comparable, but you get a lot more choice. Just 3 miles away there's a 2.0TDI well under £14k. This is all understandable especially due to ex-fleet vehicles typically being diesel, but what it does mean is that it feels like getting a secondhand 1.4TSI mk3 estate at a sensible price is harder than it should be. Buying new on the other hand it is a different story as you aren't left paying a premium for petrol.

We paid £13k for our 13-plate 1.4TSI Elegance last month, so they are available out there - but yes, they don't come up very often.

I think a lot that leased went with the Simpsons deal or had there local Dealer match it. It's not a bad deal if you are looking at leasing and not doing mega mileage.

Thanks for the info.

I do 40 Miles a day for 75% of the year - 34 of which are motorway which is pretty free-flowing. After family visits and weekend use I do aout 12k-14k miles a year.

I was looking at the Diesel VRS, but do you reckon any of the petrol engines will return a suitable economy?

I imagine sat on the motorway the petrol will give decent mpg. Excess mileage on the Simpsons deal will cost you 7.2p so £72 per £1k miles. It might be cheaper to go with this deal and then just pay the extra miles ? I did not look into it too much tbh so others might have more advice on the lease deals.

Anyone experienced the dreaded "ESP Fault"?

My VRS is flashing it up every so often and every now and again it drops into neutral while driving (DSG box)

It's off to the garage next week, hope this isn't gonna be a big bill.... :(

My Dad had it on his Golf Plus. Common problem due to a design flaw with a sensor in the ABS pump apparently. Wasn't a cheap fix, even with some dealer goodwill.

I had "an ESP" issue with my old Octy vRS (2006, Mk2).
The ESP light came on and stayed on - issue with ABS sensor. If it's the one that is common, VW produced a "fix kit" as rightly so people were getting upset with £500 bills.
The fix kit I believe was £100 and then an hours labour on top. I was trading mine in at the time for my new vRS, so dealership sorted it after they had taken it in.
Certainly ask about the "fix kit" once they start talking £500 - £700 for the repair.

Great, thanks for that info :)

In my local skoda dealers today!

Skoda Octavia vRS 230

What are those wheels ?!?!?

Ended up on a youtube train last night found a few for the 230.

With the DSG box you get the 'fart' on the upshift.

I'd mute this video but the wheels don't look too bad in this compared to the pics:

Has anyone got any experience with the 2L TDI Engine on a skoda?

Whats the economy like ?

Briskoda is full of complaints about it "only" getting late 30s to early 40s mpg around town and "only" approaching/just hitting 50mpg on a run, if that's any help. Dunno what they expect tbh lol. :D

Škoda already supply the 280ps 4x4 in the Superb, so I don't see why not?

Because it will be a cut-price Golf R.
Sure there will be differences - I'm not saying for one second the two will be identical. But suddenly the Octy which is in the "Golf Market" gets the same power units as the Golf R.
VW hate Skoda competing with their own products.

My dealer seemed pretty much certain it's coming ?

The Golf is a Hot Hatch the Octavia is a large ish family car so I doubt VW will be overly concerned tbh.

Who knows.
