Just got my email confirming that i can get max sky bb, it said ive got 3 weeks to use the order code.

Question - Im with BT broadband now, does anyone know the number i contact to get my mac code?

Before i take the plunge with sky bb, is anyone aware of any port throttling or blocking of certain ports that may be used for a well known method of DLing from lots of other people at the same time?

Line is due to be activated today. :)

Mine was ment to be yesterday. Guess wehat I am still on with my old provider. Phoned Sky and they told me that although I gave them a MAC code I should have cancelled the service and had the line re-activated. Then they gave me some old chesnut of that BT work 1 day behind the dates they have given to us.

I have been told to phone my old provider and tell them to switch me over to Sky? I think its all going horribly wrong, surprise, surprise.

Update: Spoken to probably the rudiest customer service advisor ever at Eclipse who said in his words "not our problem". I have now spent over 40 minutes waiting to talk to Sky. To be honest this looks like the usual Eclipse disaster to me. Probably the wrong MAC issued by Eclipse. It took 2 months just to move house with Eclipse they connected the wrong phone number.

They should've said that when you gave them the code...

There's nothing your old ISP can do, so that's rubbish.

"not our problem"

He's not far wrong.

Probably the wrong MAC issued by Eclipse.

In which case Sky should've told you it had been refused.

The most likely reasons are that either a) Sky's screwed up (surprise) or b) Eclipse shifted you over to their LLU, and the MAC you've got is an LLU MAC (in which case Sky should've told you it was an LLU MAC when you gave them it).

Easy way to know with b):

3.12 A MAC is a unique code, identifying a particular broadband line, and consisting of
four letters that identify the underlying service (BBIP or FTIP for IPStream, BBDS for
DataStream) followed by between seven and nine numbers, a slash, and five
alphanumeric characters (e.g. BBIP1234567/1F6HT). Connections based on LLU
use an LLU MAC, which consists of four initial letters (LLUS), followed by six digits
followed by four further digits showing the expiry date (i.e. LLUS123456ddmm).

i should be on today but no connection as of yet i will keep trying for today and if im not on by the end of he today i will ring sky 2mo

Problem found. I spoke to Sky who were very aplogetic about the wrong advice given earlier. Their helpline is jammed because BT has not been able to keep up with demand of activating accounts. So anyone waiting for Sky may be delayed.

With regards to Eclipse they are probably the worse ISP I have dealt with. Their customer advisers are rude and unhelpful even when I was a customer.

Last September I moved house, Eclipse screwed up and I was two months without broadband. Eclipse owned up eventually and I got three months flexing as compensation.

This May we moved to our new house. Once again Eclipse have screwed up and my broadband was re-connected to my old address. I was without broadband until July. I received one month as compensation and found myself locked into a twelve months contract.

Last month I asked them for a MAC code and it took 14 days for them to issue one.

I do understand things can go wrong occasionally but rudeness is never called for. I would never be rude to anyone as I treat people as I expect to be treated myself. Good manners cost a comapny nothing.

Truly hopeless IMO.

Doh! I so badly wanted to get this but I can't get a sky dish :( No sky TV, no sky BB.

The thing is, it still seems like quite a good price even if I pay for the TV without being able to recieve it.
