Sky Fibre Optic

Openreach have been and my fibre is on. Only issue is my throughput, which currently stands at 6.89 down/9.15 up . I thought a new fibre line should connect at near best possible speed as DLM doesn't need 10 days to settle, or am I mistaken (my usual state :p)?

The only thing I can think of is that Sky haven't been informed that the connection is complete and there is a restriction at their end. I haven't seen anyone mention this so I don't know if that is a possibility.

Edit: My Sky account is has updated to show I have Fibre active but the speed is still the same. I will give it a day and then ring them if it doesn't pick up.

Edit 2: Common sense had struck, so I checked I setup a pc on another line and it got full speed and my phone on wifi gets over 25mbps down. So it is either the ethernet cable or my PC.

Yeah, wired connection might have the ethernet port locked to 10Mbps. If it's in auto try setting to 100Mpbs full duplex (and/or update the NIC drivers).

Running wired and all settings are correct for 100mb full duplex. I am letting my daughter do her homework on it while I set up my old system in her room, then I will re-install the network card drivers and software.

I could have sworn I updated my last post yesterday but somehow I failed to do so.

I don't know what was wrong with it but re-installing the network driver solved the issue. Now getting 37.6/9.15 and 5ms ping on speedtest.net :). Thanks for the advice, sometimes I can't get my head into a troubleshooting mindset.

You guys will enjoy this...

BT turned up 10th Sept - setup modem/router, all working fine at ~40Mb ish.

23rd September, internet dies - no link on modem, sounded like a line issue. Turns out the BT monkey didnt "close the ticket out", so it looks like the order wasnt complete so they've cancelled my line and broadband, and now i have to wait TWO WEEKS for anothe engineer to turn up to activate my tubes... I am going to tee off on their customer services.

I can assure you that despite what Skys script monkeys have told you it's most definitely nothing to do with the engineer. It might be another BT monkey somewhere but more likely the CP, Sky in this case, raising the order incorrectly.

I'm just about to order Sky Fibre. Got a TP-Link router on order from Amazon which will be loaded with DD-WRT as soon as it's out the box. Having been on 2MB ADSL for years I think I might sex-wee when it's all up and running.

Ordered fibre this weekend. Im currently on Sky's ADSL and due to my location get a whole 5Mb! Sky think I should get around 25-26Mb so this is going to be a massive difference for me. I also get free installation, no activation fee and 6 months free for being on the sports package!

Having it installed on 21st Oct when im off work. :)

Just had mine fitted about an hour ago.

Didnt realise that you have a seperate modem aswell as sky router.

Anyway,
Told Id get around 58.7MB, so far its go up from 10 to 20 to 34 DL and UL Is now around 15-17.

Hope I end up as close to the estimate of 58 as possible, but happy with the upload speed right now.
Should get my torrent ratio up a lot quicker, which is great because I don't leave pc on a lot as laptop is main computer during the day and the fact my pc has spat its dummy out AGAIN, I might have lost all my torrents on it thanks to the crappy OCZ SSD Drives.

What's the deal with the estimate continuously dropping?

I have a solid 40/10 connection and when I first got it (August) my max estimate was 68Mb. A couple of weeks later the max dropped to 54Mb and now the BT Wholesale checker is showing a max of 48Mb. I understand it's normal for BT to decrease the estimates to due potential crosstalk etc but 20Mb over 2 months is a bit extreme!

I was considering upgrading to the 80/20 package if I could get 68Mb, but it's now not worth it if the estimate is only 48Mb!

Can BT / Sky allow for any future speed increases? Or is FTTC as it is now the maximum possible unless new infrastructure is done?

Just been reading about FTTP, think that is obviously the next step.

80/20 FTTC will be the artificial limit for the foreseeable.

Where did you get that deal ? I have been looking all over for a fibre pro deal

I didn't have to try mate, they offered it to me straightaway?? Even got 12m half price line rental at £7.25pm.
They also included new hd box for multiroom setup, but fitter came when was out of fitted 2nd dish to side of bloody house and not on chimney and didn't remove the old one, which was the whole point of the exercise, so cancelled the multiroom, even though was only £5.75 pm for 6m then £11.50 for next 6m.

Guessing due to father been with sky for many years???

So far best Speed today was 35-42 MB depending on which server tested on.

For some reason Speedtest.net has been very notchy since fibre pro was fitted and taking ages to load, sometimes ping is 15-19ms, then it goes upto 400-520ish ms.
Fitter didn't fit new socket, just left the very old one we have, so wonder if thats gonna be a problem and cause speed issues or not?

If doesn't go above 40 after 7 days gonna see if can go down to the fibre unlimited at 38mb max and I will expect then to do for half price again for 12m.

Sounds like a very good deal, not with Sky myself but am looking to move from BT.. might give them a call but it's probably for existing customers or something.

WOW!!!!
The skybox wifi has better range then my 7800n, YET the speed drop/loss over its WIFI is so bad.

62-65 connected to laptop, compared to 35-40 over wifi.

Now all this talk about needing the sky password I don't understand?

I have got my skybox ID and log in password with the box, so isn't that just what I need to setup my 7800n on sky?
