Sky Fibre Optic

Sorry the Draytek I currently have was a pain to get working, I just pop the extracted username and password in and off I go!

I'm getting Sky Fibre this Friday and will be looking to get my 2820n working with it - what did you have to do to get it working? When i moved to O2 i had all kinds of trouble guessing what the access mode, encap. etc was!

You won't have to worry about access mode, encap etc as its an ethernet handoff from the BT Modem.

Have a read of http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/sky-router/48839-draytek-2820n-sky-fibre-unlimited.html which others have used in the past :)

I was going to use it but then got annoyed by trying to get it working so I sold the Draytek to a friend and bought a 2nd hand Linksys E1000 v2 from the bay. Flashed it with DD-WRT and its been totally rock solid since its install. Same with Sky Fibre unlike friends of mine on BT Infinity :D

Wow, that snuck in without me spotting the update. I can now upgrade to Fibre and Sky are quoting 37Mbs, so I guess my local cabinet is further away than I thought was.

Edit: Install is booked for 21st :). It will be nice to dowmnload games from Steam and actually play them the same evening (not including sales time of course).

Ordered fibre last night from sky, self install so hopefully get my new modem early next week all being well. Sky estimate 74.5 down and 19 up. Coming from 15 on adsl and 0.75 up so hoping to see close to what their quoting

Anything I should know re the self install or indeed FTTC in general?

Get a filtered faceplate if you don't already have one - if you use microfilters and leave your internal extension wiring connected I expect your speed will suffer.

I'm not liking the sound of these self installs :(

I am getting pretty Peed off with BTO..

My exchange has had Fibre for two years now but they are saying my cabinet is not financially viable to upgrade.

Basically my street of 30 houses all connected to my cabinet is not being upgraded due to cost.. well that's funny as every other cabinet in the town has Fibre and there has only been a 3% uptake on Fibre connections... yet everyone in my street that I asked wants Fibre.

They told me to contact my local council / authority on broadband for the area to see if they had plans to offset costs but they don't even reply...

just hacks me off that there are loads of Fibre enabled cabinets in my Area that are not really being used yet the one cabinet that all of the people connected to it want Fibre get nothing.

Boom - all installed and working with the default sky hub - but a few problems:

1. I cant get the Draytek to work using WAN2 <---> BT OpenReach modem, using auto everything.

2. If i leave the Sky Hub in, anything on the wireless cannot connect to anything wired - i.e. my Macbook Air cannot connect to the server!

Anyone got any ideas? The wifi is already not in "Wifi isolation" - and i can ping the macbook from my server. Has anyone got a Draytek working via the modem? (Im on a 2830vn also, not 2820 as mentioned earlier!).

Does the Draytek allow you to put a DHCP Client ID in on the WAN2 setup page? If so you need to extract your Sky username and password from the Hub and put it in to that box and it should then work.

Im with Sky Broadband on a new build estate and currently on ADSL+ which is horrendously slow as im quite far from the Exchange....2-3mb.......the main exchange has fibre enabled and local areas have it, but I cant get Fibre yet as the cabinet isnt enabled....who do I need to speak to to find out if/when this might change..BT or Sky? I cant stand having such slow internet anymore and never know who I need to speak to.

There was a beta firmware around that had the option for that so it worked with MER.

2820 is limited to around 50Mb WAN-LAN speeds tho IIRC.

seem to be a number of "green boxes" popping up round my local area. Exchange is due to be enabled this month according to various websites so fingers crossed for some fibre soon!

I'm in the same boat. Exchange is live already, and my cab is due to be upgraded this quarter. I am dreaming of the day I can get fttc.
