Sky Fibre Optic

BT VDSL NTE5 Faceplate.

is it worth me testing it on the 28th and there forth for a few days with the microfilters? if the speed is crap then go the route of fitting this NTE5 faceplate?

I gather if I can see if the speeds will be any better by using the test socket on the master socket before hand? this right?

Had open reach out to install my fibre today, my sky router hasn't turned up so he set it up with a open reach modem connected to my old ADSL sky router.

Apparently sky are sending me the new black router with combined modem so what do I do ? Leave as is or use the new one ? any problems known with the new black one ?

Had my fibre installed on Monday. OR engineer turned up and half 8 and was gone by 9. I was on a 4-5mb connection on ADSL and now getting just under 30mb down and 6.5mb up. I was speaking to the engineer and the reason I only get this speed is having aluminium cable and not copper :( which explains my poor speed on ADSL too.

Still this is a massive improvement from ADSL connection and its free for 6 months so its all good!

just received my SR102 hub as my setup date has been set for the 28th, I didn't realise until reading comments on here about self installs. I have re-read the letter that was sent out and it mentions about doin it myself.

I'm not bothered about this I'm just bothered that the sky dude I did the deal with offered to drop the £50 install costs and now im finding out it's a self install.

Also the fact that im currently using micro filters and have read that it's better to get a certain face plate that already has a filter in it?

How were you advised of the setup date?

I received my router today but no details on when it will go live.

I received a letter earlier this week or late last week confirming the order and that it would be activated on the 28th october. I never noticed the bit about self install tho, also on the box of the router it says it will be ready to be used from the 28th and not to try and use it before then.

Does yours not have anything on the front of the box? did you get the SR102 router?

Are you a completley new customer to sky?

They only offered me a free install on the fibre which is a con now as it turns out it's a self install, I'm going to be paying £20 a month and I paid for the line rental up front for the year.

They wouldn't do 6 months half price or anything because im an exsisting sky tv and standard broadband customer.

I need to find out if anyone on here is getting deals with sky as an exsisting customer for the sky fibre and if this is the case i will ring them up and cancel or tell them to sort it out.

Ah ok.

Mine is a SR102 and has nothing on the front of the box.

I'm a existing customer, I got free install and 6 months half price, installed yesterday.

Was it a self install?

What services do you get off sky?

I'm going to call them this afternoon because i noticed on their site they state half price for exsisting customers aswell as new due to some pixar thing.

I mentioned this last time and they said it was for new customers but it was definatly the same deal for current customers aswell.

Feel like ive been well conned.

I'm not sure if its a self install my router hasn't turned up yet, the open reach guy gave me a white open reach modem and set it up using my old ADSL router, sky are sending a black router, should be here today.

I get TV, phone and internet, no movies or sports and already have a deal on the TV for half price.

When I phoned to order it he offered me half price for 6 months and I told him I'm not willing to pay for install because were moving in 6 months he said both installs will be free.

just called sky and they have applied the 6 months half price for me and dropped my tv bundle to £20 a month

your install wasn't a self install if the engineer actually attended your house, seems your using open reachs modem until you get your sky hub from sky.

I take it the engineer changed your face plate aswell?

Yes he changed the face plate, on the phone I was told I was getting the black modem and wouldn't need the open reach one, a white ones turned up.

EDIT

Just rang them there sending me out a black one and told me to do what I want with the rest of the gear.

It isn't a self-install if the Openreach engineer visited your property.

I was a full package customer with ADSL broadband and line rental. They said because I was a sports customer they offered me free for 6 months and no setup fee.

I was also removing movies as we don't watch them really which would have saved £8 per month but they said if I keep it they can reduce the movies and sports by £11.50 for 6 months!

It was a openreach engineer visit too not a self install.

EDIT: quick google suggests the new SR102 (Black Router) has the VSDL modem built in so doesn't need the extra openreach modem which allows you to perform a self install.

I had problems with my internet recently and an engineer had to come out and replaced the faceplate which apparently has the micro filter built in and would be used if I got fibre. HE also replaced the little box just before the socket what ever that does.

All this being done, can I do this self installation thing? is it just a case of plugging the equipment in they send me?
