Sky Fibre Optic

So managed to bag myself a Sky Fibre Pro upgrade on a 12 month contract @ £20/month along with 50% off line rental (£7.70/month). Happy days :) achieved through sky live chat of all things lol.

Now wondering if I want to keep the SR102 or swap it out for something better.

Can anyone tell me if you get a fixed IP address with Sky Fibre? I have no idea about anything fibre but I could really do with a fixed IP. Thanks

Great deal! I get Sky Fibre + Sky Talk + Family Bundle for £20 a month, no idea how I called up after receiving an offer for 60% off TV and the order included £100 discount with existing discounts ending up paying less for TV!

Anyway to my point have ordered the ASUS RT-AC66U so get that setup with the BTO modem, The SR102 is great if you have no need for large file transfer over WIFI and average wireless range will cover the house.

I live in a 3 bed semi 1940s (so has decent thick walls) and range covered the living room and bedroom nearest the room but nothing more and having frequent drop outs over WIFI when using Plex Media Server to my Chromecast, Nothing more annoying than being half way through a film cut off have to reboot router, chromecast!

Can you bring the activation date earlier once you've received the router, does anyone know?

(or plug in the router and start receiving fibre pro speeds?)

It's just become available in my area, I'm currently on the Sky unlimited broadband and get about 6mbps which isn't bad but fibre would be a decent upgrade. It's about an extra £15 a month, is there any way to get a deal on that when upgrading?

There are some offers, mainly half price for six months. Check your my sky account or call in.

So did anyone plug in their router before their activation date? If so did you get the fibre speeds or was it just normal speeds?

Reason I haven't tried is I don't want it to mess my current internet up and be without it for a week!

As long as the dsl connection type is set to auto it will initially connect at DSL speeds, when you are being swapped over at the cabinet to fibre your router will go down for a brief period and then resync at fibre speeds once the engineer has completed upgrading your line at the cabinet.

Thanks. Wish they'd hurry up, activation date is friday :(

Guys

Friend of mine has gone from Sky (standard ADSL) to Sky Fibre, they posted her a router out and gave them an activation date, I had to have a new master socket from BTO when mine was put in, is this not the case now? Just flips over on its own?

Thanks

EDIT: Well I'll answer my open question, the old router had gone offline and when I plugged in the new black 102 unit it came to live and the property is getting 35/9 speeds, considering it was struggling to get 1 meg on standard DSL it's a massive jump and well received

Ok I'm flipping confused. At our old house we had the full hog costing stupid amounts of money we did a house move through them but got rid of Sky TV however we couldn't have Fibre at the new property so for the past 2 months or so we've been running Sky Broadband Unlimited. Recently checked and we can now get Sky Fibre here so rang them up today and he's quoted us around 30mb on the line so we've gone with that. He cancelled our Sky Broadband Unlimited early and therefore we've been somewhat charged for that and put us on Sky Fibre Unlimited (no point being on pro even if he did try to sell us it) but he claims there is no connection fee, no new router (new property so we're rolling with a builder installed faceplate with external microfilter to ADSL router) with no engineer and it'll all be automatic. I personally don't see how this can be and could do with some advice  Oh and in the track orders section we get disconnected today and the fibre order is still processing.
