Sky Fibre Optic

Allegedly but I think I may just buy a billion or a TP link

I've got a TP Link WD9980 and the standard SR102.

The TP Link much better wireless coverage, gigabit ports etc - no increase or decrease in speeds - pretty much the same with the SR102.

Horses for courses really - currently back on the SR102 for now as I was having issues with my sonos dropping streams etc and just testing things but had no issues with either option.

Currently SR102 - Connection Time 96:43:51. no drops.

Would you recommend the Netgear? How easy is it to setup? Looking to replace the Open Reach modem and Sky router with an all in one solution.

Took longer to get the username out of the old SR102 than it did to set-up the netgear.

Its all wizard based so as long as you get the username|password and wan mac address its as simple as choosing a drop down box on the wizard and entering the details.

Wireless range is much better and you get 2.4 and 5ghz
4 1gb lan ports

Only surprise is how many wireless items I have that cant use the 5ghz spectrum.. think only my amazon fire stick and LG TV wireless dongle are compatible.

Wifes laptop, my tablet, both our phones, daughters tablet none of them are 5ghz and are not old items either.

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it. Tempted to get the Netgear now :)

how easy is it to get the user name & password from your sr102? & is this all I need?? anything else?

Wasnt aware Netgear did a router that supported MER for Sky - which model have you got working?

It's easy to get the user/pass from wireshark, theres hundreds of step by step guides, or if you're on the pro package just get it from online chat/phone

Netgear D7000 Nighthawk

Sky is supported in the drop down menus.

£150 for that router - TP-Link one I used is £60, does the same job.

Different items altogether...

The Netgear D7000 is an all in one router / VDSL modem.

I didn't want Sky's equipment in my combination so decided on an all in one solution. Your using the Sky hub + a router

no - the TPlink does it all on it's own - no need for the sky hub. I have been using both separately to test wireless signal strengths etc. The WD-9980 has MER/VDSL etc built in on the beta firmware. One solution, no need for the sky hub.

All I was saying is that it's £60 with dual band wireless/gigabit ports/supports Sky fibre and ADSL etc - compared with the £150 for the Netgear. Not saying which is better but for cost it's a no brainer unless there is £90 more features or benefits in the netgear.

I didn't think you were even allowed to use anything other than the Sky hub. :p

Basically their T&C's say you should not. However in reality, unless there is a problem, they won't ever know.

I was on sky's adsl for 10 years with various routers of my own and never a peep.

Edit: Found it

TP-LINK TD-W9980 N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit VDSL2/ADSL2+ Modem Router.

Bought this earlier today and can confirm it works great on sky fibre. Only issue is to use it on sky you have to be running an old beta firmware version that allows mer. Judging from forum posts TP-LINK don't intend to implement the use of mer into the official firmware, so your stuck on the old firmware and can't get any updates/bug fixes or improvements :(
