Sky Fibre Optic

The D2 *may* have a beta firmware supporting the correct DHCP options for Sky's MER implementation, but you'll still need a dedicated modem such as the HG612 or ECI and in all honesty the C2 is cheaper and allows for Gargoyle 3rd party firmware etc. from memory, so if you haven't already purchased the D2 then look to buy the C2 - a well known high street store was selling the Archer's off cheaply recently.

Looks like it does:

ATM Forum UNI3.1/4.0,
PPP over ATM (RFC 2364),
PPP over Ethernet (RFC2516),
IPoA (RFC1577/2225),
MER\IPoE (RFC 1483 Routed)
Bridge (RFC1483 Bridge)
PVC – Up to 8 PVCs
will the openreach modem work for the tp-link archer d2 750. i updated the firmware via tp-link website . still dont no how to activate the mer in the box .cheers

1. Yes.

2. Got your Sky username and password handy?

3. I assume you get this interface when you connect to your router? :
http://uk.tp-link.com/resources/simulator/D2emulator/web/index.htm

If so I'd guess the following will hopefully get it connected...

Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then Operation Mode on the left. Now select Wireless Router Mode and click Next. It will probably reboot and you'll need to log back into it when it's done.

When it's back click on the "Quick Setup" tab at the top and select "Sky Broadband(BSkyB)" on the ISP drop down list and click next. You'll then be asked for your sky username and password. After that it will allow you to set up the Wireless Network Name (SSID) and give that a password (make it different and not easy to guess and note both of these down). After doing this click Next - it should now try to do a connection test to Sky from your router through the modem, so fingers crossed...

Note : I don't have this router or use Sky broadband at all but am looking at the Archer C2 AC750 for my Plusnet connection here and was looking at some of the options on that.

Good luck.

Are you certain MER is on the list?

It's PPPoA by default.

According to a couple of recent reviews on the rainforest site for this router it works just fine with the following settings via a BT phoneline, so I'd hope the quick set up works too (like I say, I don't own one and arn't on Sky either) :

Encapsulation: PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
login/username: [email protected]
password : install
Idle Timeout: 0
Internet IP Address: Get Dynamically from ISP
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address: Get Automatically From ISP
NAT: Enable
Multiplexing Method: VC-BASED
VPI: 0
VCI: 38

You've posted ADSL settings.

So I did :o. Sorry haveaniceday - don't bother trying what I've put previously as it looks like you're out of luck on the D2 AC750. Shame, as a few of the TP-Link routers appear to support MER now going by the firmware updates for them.

Was playing counter strike source the other day and ping was suuuper low! It was even below 1ms! Usually on that css server my ping is 4 to 15ms.

Just had an email today from O2, their closing their email down on the 7th June, so ill have to transfer what i use it for, over to my Sky account, luckily its not much :p

For the guys n gals on Sky Fibre Unlimited, do you ever get any offers to go on Fibre Pro ?

Are you able to put the Sky Router into Modem mode and use a 3rd party router ?

Thinking of moving away from VM, daily drop outs which are becoming slightlyu annoying to say the least

My last day on plusnet :( :( :( - Tomorrow I'm be on the Sly router.... I spoke to a Sly rep who told me to get the install out of the way before they could offer the pro upgrade - He did mention a 30 day cooling off (not sure how much truth is in that)

There are some reports of success with some VSDL routers but I'm going to try this first.

SR102 : Disable everything wifi, wps etc etc <-hard wire DMZ-> pfsense <-my lan

Yes and kind of yes actually.

I pay £20 pm (discounted from £30) for the Fibre Pro package with Sky.

And you can't use the Sky hub in modem mode; however you can buy all in one VDSL modem/router to replace the whole thing. Such as the TP-Link Archer VR900, which is fantastic. :D

I'd stick with VM if i'm honest. If i could get VM round here i'd snap there hand off and join straight away.

Sky Routers are absolute ****, Wi-Fi range is absolutely terrible. Best to swap out for a decent router by getting your connection details by wire-shark if you were to swap to swap to sky.
I'm on FTTC maximum I can get is 11MB and it drops out multiple times a day on Sky. Absolutely useless we've had an Openreach engineer out both Sky and Openreach are not interested in fixing the problem soon be moving to PlusNet or BT if this hassle carries on. 4000ms Pings and Mega High Latency on the line takes the ****. Stick with VM i'd personally say :)

Been with Sky fibre for 4 years and never had any issues, rock solid connection, yes swapped the supplied router but done that with whomever I'm with

Always got discount so can't complain ... Was with Virgin for 4 years prior and had numerous outages and issues ..

you do know even if you do go with plusnet you are still going to have the same problems as you are using the same line make sure with open reach that the line in the ground is copper not the old aluminium one that they use to use. You are only fibre to the cabinet and the rest is old cables
