Sky Fibre Optic

So far I've only had steady throughput of about 7.5MB/sec (on Steam) since my fibre decided to max itself out over the weekend. Whether it's a bug in the hub firmware reporting an incorrect sync speed, I don't know. :D Unfortunately, I don't know of any other sites I could try downloading something from to see whether it would go any faster.

EDIT: A quick test downloading the 1.4GB ISO of Ubuntu from releases.ubuntu.com averaged 6.80MB/sec.

EDIT2: Trying a UK mirror for Ubuntu (www.mirrorservice.org/sites/cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/16.10/alpha-2/source/) I'm now up to 8.5MB/sec. It took about 5 minutes to download 2.5GB. Over the first three minutes, the speed slowly dropped from 8.5 to 7.8 then for the final 2 minutes it climbed back up to 8.1MB/sec. Not very scientific guaranteed.

Also I am using a pretty ancient laptop (9 years old) which has almost constant disk activity on Windows 10 so that could be causing a few hiccups with the downloads if the HDD has to catch up with what's being downloaded.

iv been with fibre pro for some time now, and thankfully never had an issue.
i too usually get a steady throughput of at least 7.5MB/sec.

i am thinking of down grading to 40/10 fibre, i dont download anywhere near as much as i used to as i pretty much stream everything now.

what deals can i try and negotiate? im even thinking of going back to sky tv with sky Q now that the football has started again.

I'm the same - stream everything these days instead of downloading

I got quoted £10 a month for 12 months on the Fibre if I downgraded from Fibre pro this morning.

Still decided to go to BT as it's a £10 a month for upto 52mb service (rather than 40mb with sky).

You might get a better deal if you are taking SkyQ (however BT sport with their infinity 1 package is only a £5)

I don't think I could ever go backwards in speed. As I am totally digital on the games consoles, the extra juice comes in handy for those 40GB downloads.

well - all done for me, sniff sniff. After 14 years I finally accepted that we just aren't meant to be.......Off to BT Infinity for 12 months!

£10 fibre up to 52mb (my line syncs around 55 so no big deal
Line rental (£18) plus BT sport for 12 months £5.

£120 cashback from topcashback (already tracked) and £100 mastercard from BT. Thanks very much.

transfer date 30th August.

Sky Fibre Max upgrade ordered earlier today. Estimated speed 79-80. No doubt my line could support more than that if there was a profile for it. Should be active in a couple of days hopefully.

I know I'm always talking about speeds but this will be my last post on the matter. This morning, Sunday 21st August, finally maxed out the connection on Steam which is officially double the 4.5MB/sec I used to get on normal Sky fibre. :p

What happens to users of Sky Fibre Pro? Do we get converted to the Max or just stay as we are?

Stay as you are unless you choose to downgrade. Remember there's no Static IP option and no dedicated support line. Once you go Max there's no going back.

Trained in, 79998 down, 19999 up.

Just been on to Sky cancellations to cancel my sky broadband (well to be exact to tell them to put a no early termination fees on my account so I can go elsewhere).

7 weeks after first reporting my issue and it getting progressively worse whereby my telephone doesn't work and my broadband is syncing at 11000/2000 BT have today failed to turn up for a fourth appointment in a row. Well that's not Skys fault I hear you say, and I might agree if it weren't for the fact that on all four occasions Sky have told me they have booked an appointment without actually booking an appointment.

Think I will go directly to BT this time.

Yeah, but I won't have to deal with the incompetent Sky staff (sorry Misschief no offence intended as from your posts on here you probably would have been a better person to deal with) who cannot actually book a confirmed appointment!

How do you know they haven't booked it? Openreach are renowned for failing to shop up to appointments for various reasons.

Because on each occasion I have chased them about the engineer not attending they have told me "oh the appointment wasnt actually confirmed", "sorry looks like we had a computer error" etc etc.

all done and dusted in about 8 mins. Sky connection went down, unplugged router, plugged in new BT Hub, 2 mins to configure and up and running at 55mb/10mb.

Happy days.
