Sky Fibre Optic

did you bother to read my earlier post? regardless of contention, my line is capable of 135MB and I'm synced at 80/20 so the point I'm making is that my speeds are rubbish for what I can achieve. trust me this is NOT a contention issue as the BTO engineer told me here was plenty of headroom left in the cabinet. sky are incompetent. there is plenty of evidence of it on the sky and skyuser forums.

Line being capable of 135MB is irrelevant as Sky do not offer this speed - you even say you are synced at 80/20 which is their top speed.

Therefore if your throughput is less than 80/20 it will most likely be due to one form of contention or another, whether that is at the cabinet or further in.

Tried alternative servers as well?

yeah, I usually use JDS and still the same.

the BTO engineer told me I should see full speed without any problems and if I didn't then it's an issue with sky's equipment and nothing to do with my connection. he told me sky have the ability to throttle at their side.

You are on FTTCabnet not FTTPremises, so you have 80/20 upto the cabnet and from there you have copper cable to your master socket. So depending how good all the connections are and age + distance, number of people connected, will govern your final speed.

yes I know that, but I'm synced at 80/20 at the BTO modem at my home, there is now downgrade from the cabinet to my house. I can sit on the horrible little green thing outside :p:D

OK, l'v read your thread over the past couple of days and you have not told us the green thing was just outside. So your only option is to try another sky hub from a friend if you can to prove your right.

Hey guys, I've noticed my internet doesn't seem as 'snappy' as it used to be, like when opening a link, it can take a few seconds to start loading, youtube seems to struggle with 1080p at times too.

My speeds have dropped a bit but are still perfectly acceptable. Synced at 39056/6680 currently.

Also noticed this, any cause for concern?

Any existing sky customers had any joy getting Sky to waive the £50 connection fee? It doesn't seem fair that someone who's been with them for TV since the analogue days and Broadband for 6 years should have to pay it. Plus I've seen I can get it connected free with EE.

I emailed their 'complaints' email address the other day with this very query...

I'll ask them over the phone tomorrow. If they won't I'll ask for a MAC Code and get their retentions department to do it.

I've heard of a few people who've had the £50 fee refunded onto their account as credit after whinging enough, never heard of getting it 'free' though. Realistically I suppose it's swings and roundabouts.

Yes me, complained about loyalty to exsisting customers, pricing, are we subsidizing new customers, etc. :D

Its not whining as some one puts it, if enough customers complained to sky about pricing, etc, they might not be as quick to put up prices, don't forget we pay thier wages.

I spoke too soon.

My connection has been rock solid at around 38 down 8 up since I got it installed 3 weeks ago.

Tonight it's dropped to around 16 down 8 up. I'm guessing people are hammering the online feeds for the Real Madrid v Man Utd game.

I hope it remedies itself soon. :(

Mine has literally just been installed. Was quoted 20/5 on the checker.

Happy (speed test was done with other pcs still connected, i'm sure ones got some active torrents too)

Not to troll. But for the record, Sky BB for those of us without Fibre is pretty awful at the moment. You only have to look at their forums lately to see it, and the acknowledgement that Sky have made recently about problem proves that there are indeed congestion issues. So I don't think it's that far fetched for someone to say a bad thing about Sky at the moment lol.

Mines just as awesome as it was the day I got it installed :p Thankfully I'm not in a congested area though! :D

A BT engineer having a go at Sky for throttling?

Yeah, I'd believe that guy.

Just had sky fibre 40/10 installed. The BT guy was a very nice chap and moved my master socket and rewired everything to keep my 3 extensions working - all in all a painless experience.
