Sky Fibre Optic

I'd move to BT now that they have unlimited downloads these days. Going for Sky on Fibre, for me, was and is a HUGE mistake, there ADSL was excellent however.

This week I've been having problems with my internet, usually from about 6.30pm when I get home from work until around 9pm. I keep losing the connection for about 20-30 seconds at a time. This happens on all devices. The modem stays synced so it's not completely losing the connection, it just hangs. Very annoying :(

Plus my pings are getting worse.

The only problems are sometimes the internet comes to a stand still, however I've come to a conclusion this was somewhat my fault for closing Speedtest when it was uploading and downloading, which then required a reboot. The other problem I've been having is with the new Sky Hub, sometimes I get a 400 Error from pages but I think thats my firewall maybe, not getting it on other devices...

Although the actual service I've been getting with sky fibre has been good, **the customer support from Sky in general is pretty awful.** They won't give me any VAT invoices among other things... Now BT have changed their policy on P2P throttling at peak times, I'll be moving over to them as soon as my contract is up. It works out cheaper and it's faster.

Just got fibre installed over a month ago and connect at 40/10, l emailed them about the £50 fee and laid into them about a warding customer loyalty, fibre cheaper else where, are we subsidising new customer's and got the fee waived, bend Sky's ear and ask why certain people did not pay the fee.

As for customer service over 5 years have never had any trouble, l agree some are better then other's, got a slight issue with my connection Sky Fibre Team are getting it sorted with in the next 24 hours.

Power Cuts

Hi, if you have a had a power cut or two, check your speed as the DLM see's this as a connection error and might reduce your UPload speed. I have had 3 power cuts and lost 2.5mb, been onto the sky fibre team and it could take upto 2 weeks plus before the DLM decides to give you back your speed.

The more sky members that report this, the quicker Openreach will look into this, thank you.

See my thread on Sky fibre broadband-

My sync speed has now dropped to this:

It happened in November last year, BTO came out, replaced the modem and faceplate and it was fine for about a month, and it's been steadily dropping since.

The cable from the mast to the master socket was replaced when I had fibre installed, so there must be an issue elsewhere. :(

Edit: Just rang Sky, they did a line test and it is showing a fault. Need to ring the Fibre team tomorrow!

Not a sky issue but just found where mr openreach but a new box on the wall he only put one screw in fully, with the other half an inch out - so the box was flapping all over the place. Thanks :(

I have ordered Fibre, but now am wondering if I have done the right thing. I read of some many people getting poor speeds lag at peak times.

Will I get lag spike on fibre the same as I get now on LLU.

Will all fibre providers be the same.

Do I cancel and go plusnet. Arrrrgggghhhhh

I have had sky fiber for 6 days and cancelled today!!!!!!!!!!

download speed at night 0.25mbps:eek:
upload speed 0.14mbps:eek:
with a ping of 900ms:eek:

10 in the morning or after midnight all the correct speeds!

I have been on to sky by phone since day one, they say congestion and that it will be sorted, but after reading on the sky forums and other broadband web sites it seems the sky system is way overloaded plus others have been reporting this for months with no resolve.

so before I got stuck on a contract for 12 months with broadband slower than a 56k modem. I cancelled it which took me 2 hours on the phone to explain the law regarding the cool off period.

so if anyone signs up for sky remember your rights to cancel by law 8 days cooling off period if its working or not, but sky will try real hard and say they cant change the cancellation fee's which are £132.00 so speak to a manger and remind them of there own cooling off period.

Ive now signed up to BT infinity 1 and although sky said its the same system, its not sky have there own hubs after the BT rental part and its this which slows everything down. a friend 2 doors down connects to the same exchange as myself, infact we share the same telegraph pole. his bt fiber never slows to a crawl like sky does. even tested it myself last night, when mine showed 0.25mbps download his was 26mbps and bt openreach report no problems with our exchange.

sky might look a good deal, but be careful when you sign up people!

Well my sync has now dropped to 10000/800 :D

On the plus side my pings have improved dramatically lol.

Been on the phone to Sky and got a BTO engineer booked for Tuesday morning next week. Last time this happened they replaced the BTO modem and the filtered faceplate but it only lasted a couple of months.

Hope it gets fixed for good this time, because when I'm synced at 40000/1000 it's amazing :)

Jesus this thread is like a ghost town!

BTO engineer just left. He did the various tests and everything passed. So he's now waiting on a hoist van and going to swap the pair of wires from the pole to the cab, and hopefully that will do it. Everything else is new!
