*** Sky Q Thread ***

Had Q fitted about a month ago. Can I turn off instant rewind. I could on my old HD box, but cant find it in the menu on Q. The touch remote is too sensitive, and getting a bit annoying.

TIA

I couldn't get on with the touch remote but I was supplied with a spare button one which is just fine :)

Didn't you get both? Looked like a standard thing?

I have loved the touch remote since day one, its the second best thing about Sky Q in my view, just behind voice control.

In fact I hate when i have to use the Q box in the upstairs room that only has eh old style button remote :(

Wish all my remotes were touch.

Quick question,

I'm looking at a Q package & don't want mulitroom, I'm having the 2tb box but want access to the uhd content.

Question is do I have to have mulitroom to have uhd content?

If you get Sky Q fitted, do they need to replace anything on the dish, and/or, run more wires? eg: We have two wires coming from the dish to our current HD box, surely they don't need to run even more?

With the additional Multi-Room boxes, are these wireless only, or wired (yet)?

The LNB will need changed as a minimum, if the dish is an old one the Engineer will need to change it also to accept the new LNB. If the cabling is relatively new and in good nick they might leave it, others will prefer to replace it anyway. Mini boxes connect wirelessly, or wired if you prefer via Ethernet. They have no connection to the dish.

It's a different LNB for SkyQ ( wideband iirc) , it's not compatible with legacy equipment so if you think you may cancel your SkyQ in the future request the engineer install a hybrid LNB otherwise you'll run into trouble, even with Freeview channels etc.

ED: Oh - beat to it.

Replace the wires from the dish with what? A single new wire?

It's the sensitivity that lets it down, especially the fast forward and rewind. It's too easy to acidentally press them.

Agreed. Just the act of putting the remote down often sends it flying forwards or backwards.

Apart from that though, it works with a decent range. I split the signal off the main box and send the HDMI signal over CAT 6 cable to the bedroom, through another bedroom on it's way, so probably about 6m plus 2 walls at least. And the fancy remote does a fine job of controlling the main box from the bedroom. While the button remote controls it from the lounge. Works well for me.

This thread has got me thinking now I have found out the LNB and dish will most likely have to be changed. My Sky Q is due to be fitted on Sunday, the house already has a sky dish on the chimney. Is there a rule that they don't have to go above the gutter height when fitting the new dish/LNB as I don't want another dish fitted lower when I already have one up there.

They will most likely just swap it like for like, as the fixings and cables will already be in place.

We recently moved house and the previous owner did not have Sky Q. The engineer had to replace the entire dish but none of the cables, so was a quick easy job. Although, I did mention that at our old place that our current Sky Q box at least once / twice a week had to be rebooted due to it freezing or saying no signal. He ended up swapping it out, said something about the very first Sky Q boxes having overheating problems just in case anyone else has this issue you may want to get it changed.
