*** Sky Q Thread ***

We have several thousand customers who still have Digiboxes and Sky+ boxes and no amount of free HD box upgrades has, so far, enticed them into upgrading. They have no use for HD at all. Should they be forced into paying extra for a service they can't use and don't want?

If you want 4k on Netflix you have to pay Extra. Sky are no different.

That’s a technology/ ignorance issue in most cases as you well know. My parents knew jack all about the HD freeview channel until I sorted out autotune. And charging for both HD and UHD in the same package.....really ???

Also...... The UHD package on Netflix is a couple of quid.....Hardly the cost of charging for hd and uhd.

i have UHD on sky and trust me it isn't worth it over HD. also do you not like to watch sky in another room? i have ps4 pro in games room with sky app. mini box in bedroom and main box in living room. they all get used. even with only 2 of us in the house.

you don't think you want it because you have never had it and you think you want UHD because you have never had it on sky.

UHD on sky is pretty pants. it's only a handful of matches and a handful of content on sky cinema. nothing else is in UHD. i take it you have sports and cinema already? which means you must be paying inexcess of £60 a month for sky. so what is an extra tenner tbh?

the amount of UHD content on sky isn't worth the extra trust me. just watch it in HD or pay the tenner and realise it makes next to no difference.

I don't think you are missing out with Sky's 4K content at the moment to be honest with you. It's not very good in my opinion. I'll maybe revise that when they add more native 4K content and HDR.

If you sit a proper distance from your TV then the UHD sports do offer a small but noticeable improvement over HD.

I would agree with this. I can see EPL games appear sharper and slightly more detailed but I'm still fine with HD whereas when I switched back to SD when HD was new it was like watching through Vaseline. It's just a shame there is so little UHD football on Sky.

UHD is not worth it until it brings HDR to the game.

From 8 foot away I can't really tell the difference on a 65" OLED. I have to get within 4 foot or so to pick up the small differences.

Now a 4k BD versus 1080 is a different story but we all know about Sky's bitrate and lack of HDR.

so does movies. however the content is so little it makes pretty much no difference overall. none of the scottish games are in UHD for example. a handful of premiership games. so the majority of sports and movies you are watching in HD as the best choice available. on the rare occasion you do get the odd one in UHD and it's good but IMO it's not something I would miss if taken away from me. if all movies were in UHD and all sports in UHD then i would say the £12 fee is worth it and it would be missed if taken away.

however as it stands UHD on sky is crap.

Need a little assistant at a confusing offer....so currently have Boxsets with Q/multiroom and if I want to upgrade to Ultimate on Demand it reduces by bill by £4.50 per month. But I don't know why....I can't see or figure out if I lose channels....and if I link my netflix account it says Sky take over the sub, does that mean my Sky payment goes up by the netflix amount but I stop paying netflix direct or now just included at the quotes price?

The main info that is available is very limited and delving into the legal stuff links just isn't that legible to me, it also doesn't mention if this is extending out my contract which actually has about 6 months left.

atm I don’t have sky at all. I’m using NOWTV and Netflix. Hence why I said I won’t get sky q. And yes I’m also waiting on hdr. I’m well aware resolution isn’t everything. I’ve got enough high end equipment , I’m not a noob lol .

Ultimate on demand costs £10 a month, it includes box sets and the premium netflix account. So you don't pay anything to netflix, you will get an email asking to to activate Netflix on your sky account. I'm sure it will re start an 18 month contract. Best double check that though.

Thanks, I'll check again for contract length on the upgrade offer.

So why would adding it reduce my monthly bill by £4.50 if it costs £10 per month (and also save me the £9.99 I pay netflix). Sounds too good to be true, I still keep access to netflix on other devices I assume, such as my PC/Tablet/etc?

Edit: Just adding an image of it because...why not! The T&C link says 31 days notice to cancel on demand ultimate which then reverts payments back to Netflix.

Edit 2: I took it. Reading up some more you do keep access on other devices so this drops my sky bill by £4.50 and saves my the £10 netflix cost. Can't say fairer than that.

Son of a..........did not say it was removing HD and Kids as part of this. So +£10 to add them back. Still a net saving of £5 but FFS why make it this hard.

It was confusing me as well.

THis is why we have stores in loads of centres around the UK, I would advise everyone to go and speak to one of the guys, or girls there.

A stupid question but as a current Virgin customer moving to Sky Q - do I need a dish?

Yup - Sky haven't gone dishless in the UK yet. In fact even in other countries I believe it's been a limited trial.

Balls. That's me in trouble with the girlfriend then. We're in a rented flat although I don't think we'd have any trouble with the landlords. I'll get stick for having to ask them though. I assumed being 2019 you don't need a dish anymore! :(

EDIT: I guess my next question is will I have any issues using my Harmony Ultimate w/ Hub on a Sky Q box?

I used to have Sky Q with Harmony One...no trouble at all setting it up, you'll be fine.

Edit - saying that I think you'll need the Sky Q remote handy for voice search, which is surprising useful on Sky Q

Cool thanks. Yeah when are Harmony going to bring out a remote that supports voice control? I already have a Fire TV on which it would be useful. Or is there any way to use my Google Home to control/use SkyQ?
