*** Sky Q Thread ***

Ah OK. Shame there is no kind of user profiles to separate things. My father watches and deletes stuff as soon as hes watched it so he would end up deleting stuff I wanted to watch.

Yep. It's a ridiculous oversight and a real pain for families who want separation of stuff for different people.

Personally it works well as I'm the only one in the house and it means I have everything in three different rooms and don't have to worry about where I schedule recordings or watch stuff.

Apparently, Sky have plans to partition the main box so that separate people have separate control i.e. Parental controls would allow the kids to record and delete on their own partition with no access to the rest of the recordings.

I'm not sure when that'll be implemented, but the install guy did mention it to me.

The boxes have a HUGE amount of storage and you will then find said shows in the deleted section. You can also download 95% of the stuff using their on demand service. So even if he deleted it 2 times (out of the deleted section too) then you could still watch them. As soon as I hit download within seconds they are ready to watch.

I've too, have noticed better IQ on HD channels and have also got picture set to 1080p.

I'll need to see what people on AVforums are saying as in the past it's been recommended on the Sky HD boxes to run at 1080i dunno about the new boxes.

However if it is better IQ then it could be the box and nothing to do with 1080P and running 1080i makes zero difference. I have it set to 4K 10 bit on my 4K tv for Ultra HD content and 1080i on the Panny plasma.

You want to keep the image as pure as possible which is why 1080i is recommended as it's broadcast at 1080i.

Lockup, reset, lockup, reset.... Both my mainbox and minibox have been awful this weekend.

Will be calling sky tomorrow.

Yeah I have had the same black screen after black screen then my hardrive failed totally, I can watch live tv but that's it and can't watch anything at all on my mini boxes, which kinda proves the stream to the mini boxes isn't live but recorded onto the main box then streamed out

I was shown how the system should be setup and how mine was setup when the engineer came out after the initial install by the first engineer.

First setup

Main Box <-> Router <-> Mini Box

Second Setup

Router <-> Main Box <-> Mini Box

Basically the mini box needs a direct connection to the Sky Box to work fully all the time, since it was set up to the main box it hasn't failed once. Beofre it was communicating through the router which is when you get fails

I don't have Sky broadband/wifi, my experience is that the mini box works much better with a wifi connection to the main box rather than going through my home network. I'm also fairly convinced that when it was wired it was causing other network issues although I haven't proven anything.

I'm looking at getting SKY Q but not sure im that keen on the upgrade pricing offer from my.sky.com page

Basically it looks like I have a £297 upfront cost same monthly price as now. I want the 2TB box and two mini's and each item have a £99 upfront cost, is that the best/only deal available for current customers?

I'm trying to get through to SKY chat see if they can offer me something but they seem very busy right now.

Hope someone can point me to a bit better offer as £300 feels rather steep for this.

I am also a current customer and have been on chat as well as phoning them about sky Q and they wont budge on the price no matter what I say or try, so I will just have to wait until the 3rd of February next year when my contract ends and then haggle a deal.

I'm finding the opposite, I used to have daily crashes on the mini but since turning off all wifi on main & mini boxes, turning on ECO mode and going ethernet no problems for weeks now.

So whats the better way, as if your tv does a better job upscaling, the box should be left to 1080 but then do you have to change it if watching 4k? Or is there an auto option?

There's no auto option.

Whether the box or the TV does a better job of de-interlacing and upscaling depends entirely on the TV. I've found mine are pretty much identical. Just try it each way and see which is better.

Some are convinced their TV does a better job of upscaling 1080 content to 4K and thus want an auto option on the box.

Ideally you need to be at the end of your contract, put you cancellation in and cancel your multi room (Saving 12p/m).

Then go on the "Coming back to Sky" chat, accept a 60% off contract with them again Without multiroom.

Now go to the your account in the sky website, then look in offers and accept Sky Q for 12 p/m extra a month and the £90 upfronts

Thanks for the tip and I only pay £31 a month including multiroom as I am still on 50% off and £75 credit.

I will be cancelling my account in February and then haggle the best deal I can get.

Hi Guys

Looking for some advice, I'm moving to a new place at the end of Jan and our inlaws will be in an annex next door (wife's dad had an op last year which left him paralysed from the waist down)

We want to have the main box in our living room and maybe the Q mini in our bedroom, then another main box in their living room and Q mini in their bedroom all with the full package as they watch lots of football (maybe not the movie packages actually). Is this possible?

Thanks Mart

Our boxes have already updated.
