*** Sky Q Thread ***

OK- thanks.

just spoke to parents and on unwrap the sky cheep-skates sent a 300GB Amstrad 780, no the 1GB Q - so they still have miniscule storage.
Told them to call Sky and ask why they had been sent an old box (not on web site) when for the same money per month basic+sport £50,and no new customer deal, they would supply a Q
I had also thought Q may give improved on-demand functionality.

You only get a Sky Q box if you order Sky Q.
If you order Sky HD with 1TB or whatever the box is now, you won't get a Q box.

Or is it all Q now?

I had thought SKY were only sending Q's, and as I mentioned, was confused they had not discussed a LNB change.
[a month or so back, sky flogged-off old boxes for £30 so that had re-enforced there is only Q]

If you want to upgrade yourself then you'll only be offered Q. Sky are trying to get as many people off White Sky+ boxes as possible and onto HD. That way they can order Sky store and take box sets packages and potentially the £6 extra for Sports HD.

The SkyQ 1TB is obviously much cheaper upfront than 2TB uhd/multi-room variant, however are the innards of the boxes so different ?
such that in the future sky may offer uhd/multi upgrade on the 1TB ?
(... rather than quitting and signing up as a new customer in SO's name with quidco/other vouchers to effectively reduce the £200)

Thanks - it is possible it is corroded/water-ingress, and since more than >2 channel recording is broken, withut new LNB, then will ask for replacement

Sky presumably had to route a >3core cable, I am surprised if you cannot run a regular freesat off of one of the sky wideband lnb's though.
[wonder if these new lnb's serving two tuners are as good esp under any adverse weather conditions - but maybe they put higher end analog in the box]

Not sure what he did exactly but the cables in the house did not change at all. I can use Freesat on my LG B6V and Sky Q works fine

Had my SKY Q installed yesterday as part of the LG offer. Had to pay £60 for the install charge. In fairness the very polite and professional engineer did change the LNB, the connectors on the cabling to the box, and replaced the HDMI cable as for some reason the one I had just didn't feed a signal through it.

Got the 2tb box as part of the offer. Not keen on the touchpad remote at all but I suppose ill get used to it. The SKY Q interface is lovely to look at but I'm finding it confusing navigating round it at the moment. Just seems to be more clicks to get to what I need than before. The touchpad is very hit and miss as well.

Oh and the biggest PITA, the TV remote does work with SKY Q yet. Great foresight on LGs part to sign up with SKY for a promotion knowing there amazing magic learning remote doesn't work with the service.

Is there any issue with enabling BT sport with a Q box (1TB), parents were given a comment by Sky that they do not not know if it even works (maybe they are just scaremongering)

Reference the touchpad remote (if it shared by 1TB) maybe you are referencing an App, but if not, and it is like a touch screen look and feel I can see my folks having problems using that. (with the older hd+ style membrane remotes the distinction between battery low, not pointing direct enough and degraded membrane, never made sky remotes a good experience)

I use my Logitech Harmony ultimate remote. Much easier to use than the sky one IMO.

that fills me with confidence :( - I assume an old hd+ remote cannot be re-tasked/re-paired with a Q to perform 90% of the functions ?

No issue at all with enabling BT Sport with Sky Q I have it on main box and two minis.

The Sky Q boxes should also be supplied with a normal remote as well as the touchpad remote (Mine was) so if you don't get on with the touchpad then you can revert back to the normal remote.

well if you need your dose of rugby have to pay for both BT&Sky sport, folks have BT broadband too, so that adds it to sky for ~£5 p/m as opposed to ~£20.
Plus with Q hopefully match overlap recording dilemas go away

Even with BT Broadband if you want it in HD it's more than a fiver a month. More like 15 from memory.
