*** Sky Q Thread ***

Had SkyQ for a few weeks and once a week I'm having to factory reset the box to get catch-up services to work - it's always giving the "there's a problem with your internet..." message however going into settings shows everything as working fine? Even though it's not.
Any ideas?

Par for the course. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be but it's still flaky.

Mine's been fine for a couple of weeks but just last night I had the "no satellite signal" and needed two reboots of the main box to clear it. The minis both then worked but couldn't access recordings until they were power cycled too.

The pros far outweigh the cons for me but it's still shaky as hell.

The sky web page says you get a free mini with a multi-room subscription, and confirms multi-room 'unlocks' suhd content (so I would ring Sky and ask where mini is)

But LG offer (perversely) does not seem to include the suhd movie or sport packages.

Also I expected you would get 2 remotes (even without the minibox) that is what I was telling my folks (w/o multi) to check during their install, but there is some ambiguity on this back down thread.

nothing I could see back there ?

Just called them. I have the package but the deal the deal doesnt include a mini box. They said I can add up to 4 mini boxes for no extra monthly cost. But each box is £99.

I have taken the offer, £31 sky Q full package until Nov, then 2 months full price but the lady i was chatting to said you can come back closer to the time maybe they can offer something :)

sounds a good deal -- my folks with limited negotiation for sky+ upgrade got £34 - 2TB basic+sportHD w/o multii, no install cost
The SkY call centers sem to be a nightmare finding someone with an intelligble English accent for older ears - they do not know/care about their customers
(plusnets the best I have dealt with, Scottish powers a nightmare too)

I am locked into Q till September but my discount on my viewing package ends next month. If I drop it to the cheapest only, am I likely to see a 50 or 60% off offer for sports etc?

Sky cretins. I used that Christmas offer and applied £15 Sky store credit to my account, mum was over and wanted to watch a film so I bought it on my Q box. But no, apparently you had to have bought it online and waited for it to become available on the Q box so I've been charged £7.99 for a film I didn't even want to see.

It said clearly on the email that the code and the credit needed to be redeemed on the website, but you're not the only one to make the mistake.

So it appears if I upgrade to Q as an existing customer I must commit to a new 18 month stint? Is there anyway to get it on a 12 month deal (I have just renewed the TV with a discount) If I bought an LG OLED and had their Q multiscreen offer would that just be for 12 of the 18 months or is that a 12 month deal? Anyone know?

maybe too late , but on a rolling contract, we negotiated TV discount and Q upgrade at same time, for 12 months; thus the contracts are synchronised.
so will not have to serve out the tv package at full rate before the Q contract finishes.

Have not yet had the install, but the fact that the new install requires the wideband lnb, apparently not compatible with freesat is locking us in to sky for the future - their dastardly plan ?
Apparently the hybrid lnb is no longer installed.
(mental note : I will get them to leave old lnb)

As an existing sky Q customer if you buy into the LG OLED deal you get ZERO deal.
That offer despite the advertising not telling you does NOT apply to existing Sky Q customers.

I would give sky a call, if the engineer is aware prior to the install they still CAN fit a hybrid.

You're being pedantic. I think it's fairly obvious that a "free Sky Q" offer would only apply to those who don't already have it.

I obviously spoke to the wrong person, he couldn't offer anything Q related when I asked.

As for the LG offer do they not pay the multi-room component for existing Sky Q customers? Is it only for SKY HD upgraders then?

I think only Sky HD upgrades. Getting my Sky Q(atm Sky HD) installed on Monday. Shame it doesn't include sky mini box tho. They want £100 for that.

What's the install lead times for Sky Q guys?

There's now dish or broadband at our new place so would imagine I need to get those sorted too... Just curious about the Sky Q part, thanks

They would have installed Q in a couple of weeks - Norwich area, but we pushed it out so they could watch all the stuff on the old box !

About the Hybrid LNB (thanks MissChief) all the pictures I have seen, show 2 Q plus 4 other/freesat connections; they must have good lnb's in that compact head to drive 4 signals !;
I only really need 2 for freesat, which could be capped, so that, down the line ,could move the existing two cables back from Q to these regular LNB's, if we reverted to freesat.

... Also is there a good consolidated faq on using Q somewhere (maybe here ?)
showing any shortcuts ?
[eg. I assume manual recording can still be done from radio stations, specifying channel and manually start and stop times ]
