*** Sky Q Thread ***

Do you still have to an extra pay £6 a month to get Sky Sports in HD with Sky Q? Seems illogical if you do and I assume you don't get 4K sports unless you do?

The BT sport add on if you have broadband is £6p/m + HD £5p/m

The Sky online GUI has the £6p/m HD sport option greyed out for me when I select sport+q, so seems it maybe thrown in, but cannot see what selection would give it as an option
(folks only had SD sport with sky+ box - but guess HD is manadatory now - do their bitrates justify it ;))

Confirming that Sports HD is indeed included with sky Q sport subscription (no £6 delta) - that is what my folks just got w/Q2TB w/o multi-screen (so no 4k)
- an upgrade from sky+(sd)

I cannot see how/if you can see your contract online, since discussed contract is 10 months reduced and then full price for 2 remaining.
(why do they configure contracts this way ? purely to avoid a big price hike after 12months ? is it more Machiavellic ?)

Thanks all for the confirmation.

So you have to have multi-room to get the 4K even if you have a 2TB box which supports it?

At least you can view your next bill ahead of schedule, that prompted me to cancel yesterday rather than wait another 10 days to when I thought it was due.

The text from the online My Sky seems to confirm that
Ultra HD-ready (Ultra-HD picture quality requires Ultra-HD TV and Sky Q Multiscreen)

why they do not call it 4K option, I don't know
[albeit not sure any of the rugby my folks watch would be available in 4K, or even 1080 (french broadcasts) . ...and do not take movies or have necessary fibre broadband ... so 4k not too useful for them]

synonymous in the public domain - is there something more subtle in SKy talk than -
Used correctly, 4K describes the 4,096 x 2160 resolution first introduced in digital cinemas. UHD refers to the 3,840 x 2,160 resolution you'll find in 16:9 ratio TVs, which is what you actually take home.

With sky sports you get UHD and SD.

With £6 a month extra you get the HD channels too.

I have sky Q 2tb and multiroom boxsets plus sports and UHD works but had to pay £6 to get the f1 in HD. I'm an early adopter though.

New customer
Gets original bundle and multiscreen both free

Existing customer (non Q)
gets multiscreen free. All other subscriptions remain the same, however note that the new Q contract will be 12 months, so if you are on a discounted package, it will only be discounted till the end of the current period and you will have to pay full price for the remainder of the Sky Q contract period.

Existing Sky Q customer
Nothing in it for you

I was an existing customer yet out of my contract. It allowed me to claim the LG voucher code I got when buying my TV recently, but I only got a single 2tb box and touch remote. I had HD SKY HD pack before so im still getting HD, but no SUHD stuff.

The blurb from LG says

LG OLED TV 4K
All OLED 4K models

When you buy an LG OLED 4K TV

New Sky TV Customers
12 months Sky Q Multiscreen subscription + Original TV Bundle

Existing Sky TV Customers
12 months Sky Q Multiscreen subscription

Standard set-up from £60

Does that mean I should have go a second box or not ?

And it doesn't mention anywhere about SUHD content.

Hmm, gets more confusing, just logged on to my account on Sky and it says I have the Sky Q multiroom bundle which is supposed to give me;

Sky Q Multiscreen Pack

Watch what's on your main box, in any room on any TV, with Sky Q Multiscreen and stream recordings on your tablet at home - or download recordings to your tablet to take with you out of the home. Plus, unlock Ultra HD when you also take the Sky Q 2TB box.

The sky web page says you get a free mini with a multi-room subscription, and confirms multi-room 'unlocks' suhd content (so I would ring Sky and ask where mini is)

But LG offer (perversely) does not seem to include the suhd movie or sport packages.

Also I expected you would get 2 remotes (even without the minibox) that is what I was telling my folks (w/o multi) to check during their install, but there is some ambiguity on this back down thread.

VincentHanna - I did not understand your comment
can't confirm see post #10
nothing I could see back there ?

Had SkyQ for a few weeks and once a week I'm having to factory reset the box to get catch-up services to work - it's always giving the "there's a problem with your internet..." message however going into settings shows everything as working fine? Even though it's not.
Any ideas?

I have a friend, who's an existing Sky HD customer, who's bought an LG telly and signed up for the Q offer. He's not taking a mini box (won't use it so why pay the £60 to have it installed) however it appeared he need the multi-room bit (ie. what LG are offering existing customers for free) to be able to watch UHD. He's getting the 2TB box but still awaiting the install. Be interesting to see what he ends up with. This thread seems quite contradictory about much of this.

Even without the minibox I assume, as LG are paying his multiroom, he'll still be able to stream to a tablet.
