Sky removing Discovery Packages

Just cancelled, didn't really stand in my way to be honest. Only said that they are still in talks.

On the bright side I do have an immediate 50 % discount available now lol.

Waiting now to see if virgin can do me a deal

Sorry but this is very sad news,We watch a lot of Investigation Discovery and to lose these channels is just wrong.Fair enough there is a lot of people that don't watch them but for everyone person that doesn't there is always another that does, Not only there loosing these great channels but also Eurosport what a complete farce sky are becoming who ever is to blame need to sort this out sky are loosing to many channels, We have already lost a lot of the big Prem games to BT. The 12.30 kick off was Rangers and BT had the Liverpool game. Its shocking Sort it out

Just cancelled Sky this evening, purely because we never watch TV anymore, nothing to do with Discovery etc, just convenient timing. The guy at retentions was telling me that they have had a massive increase in people leaving because of this.

EU rules stated that to improve competition no one provider could bid for all the PL games. BT have two packages, Sky have the other four, including the majority of the top picks AFAIK.

I'm unsure of the length of the contract but I've heard some truly stupid figures being bandied about. Someone even said Discovery wanted ONE BILLION DOLLARS, but that could be over ten years or two years, I have no idea.

Maybe because Sky paid $1 billion for the F1 contract they all want the same money? But $1 billion is silly money.

I can live without discovery channels but they are nice to have. However I certainly can't slate Sky. Their TV service is far and away better than the competition.

The sky box and it's whole interface is a pleasure to use in comparison to Virgin.

Also Sky movies actually has good movies available, unlike my Netflix and Amazon accounts that have mostly crap movies.

This is causing family conflicts the Mrs wants rid of SKY which i see her point with them loosing more channels and i want it for the sport. I might just give in and get rid the investigation Discovery channel is a big loss to our evening viewing

The SkyQ box is certainly light years ahead of VM Tivo, VMs box is slow and the guide is terrible.

maybe already suggested - but if they just unbundle discovery/eurosport from the variety pack and start charging new customers a premium for that, giving discovery a percentage of the now, transparent, revenue they make, both parties could be happy ? (tv packages used to be more granular anyway)

Where are the good movies on Sky ? (can no longer find link that showed, which, from recent top box office hits, were on sky/netflix/amazon ... OK a box office hit does not necessarily correlate with good )

I've not read the thread in it's entirety so apologies if I'm repeating what has already bee said. Too much of their money is being pumped into English football and they are short-changing everyone else.

Sky are paying £5bn ish, just for football. (3 years worth) At 126 games per year that works out at over £13m per game just for the rights. Then people wonder why Sky has to squeeze everything else to wring more money out of them for less.

With the way they structured their packages if you wanted to watch the Discovery channels you needed to pay more for the privilege, common sense would dictate if they are no longer going to receive that content you should as a minimum see a reduction in your subscription cost. Whether something will appear on their website with regards to adjusting prices is anyone's guess. I don't know the in's & outs of whether it's SKY or Discovery that is cutting their nose off to spite their face, but it's all a bit pish for the customers.

I know not everyone watches the Discovery channels, but I count myself amongst those that watch those channels more than most. So will look at whether I can find the content that I enjoy elsewhere.
