Sky removing Discovery Packages

Interesting. My brother has the Ultra HD box as he has fibre too and so got a full package however my parents have the standard box and tbh we haven't noticed a huge difference. Error or issue then maybe? Not great either way.

And YouView is slowly starting to get there from the looks of it. Will be interesting to see once the update drops and can compare again but for now my opinion is still that at least the Sky UI is significantly better and more sleek than any other service provider be it through TV, Online or box.

I guess thats where I can tell the difference more. If I use the HD box then go use the Ultra HD box the latter is noticeably quicker.

Really Sky's UI should be a lot better they have had more time to develop one where BT just nicked Youview's and bolted on a few extras like the BT Player which is not very good anyway.

True but then considering they could see what Sky was doing, how well it worked and the fact that the cost for both services are very similar then I am failing to see how them cheaping out on their UI is a good thing really.

If on the other hand they had a custom setup by YouView that really added benefit for BT customers then I honestly might have moved across (although missing Sky 1, 2 & Atlantic would be my biggest issue).

Just reviewed what the alternatives to Sky are - was almost set on a Youview box as they advertise support for NowTV, unfortunately that is basically only limited to movies (doesn't include any live channels).

Just want one box covers most channels with options to use NowTV/Amazon/Netflix (so I can pick and choose which to subscribe to)

Watching NOW TV on YouView
You can use your YouView box to watch on demand movies with NOW TV.

Unfortunately live TV channels and on demand TV shows aren’t available on YouView due to rights restrictions.

Shame especially with Fast n Loud starting again on Monday and it being the last season Aaron will be on :(

Deadliest catch,Moonshiners,Wheeler Dealers and F & L are all I watch on there.

Doesn't the Xbox One have the ability to have NowTV/Prime/Netflix apps and thus you can choose on there?

My PS4 does, but I'm after a single box that does all that (ideally integrated into the search) + watch/record 2 or more channels of either freeview or freesat, all while ideally being fairly Wife friendly!

The Sky box for all it's niggles, does the EPG very well, and the search integrates on demand with everything else (e.g. alternate showing of same program, or catchup of missed episodes etc).

Just can't decide whether £62/month or whatever my non-discount rate is, is worth paying for a nice EPG, F1, and a few (now reduced) channels that we watch "because they are there"

Ah OK then. And I am sure you can get an alternative deal for the Sky. I managed to grab it at £32.50 for Sky+ HD with movies/sports/Entertainment etc.

Reading the Sky Facebook page, they are getting thousands of posts complaining and threatening to leave if they lose these channels. It's hard to imagine that some sort of compromise won't be met before the 1st.

Honestly I don't think it will. It isn't even all FB as it takes two to get to this stage. I wonder what/if anything is being shown on the Discovery fb page as well.

Discovery are actively campaigning against Sky on their Facebook page :p

Rightly or wrongly, it is Sky who will lose face if the channels are removed, the customers pay sky and not discovery.

Maybe but I don't really see Sky doing much about it. Discovery trying to flex muscles it doesn't really have. The reason some European equivalents have already dropped them from what was being said.

Thousands of people unfortunately isn't going to sway Sky as they will have the data on how many watch the channels and thus to them what those channels are worth based on our viewing habits.

It is how the elect to keep/increase their customers by having such information. Assume it is just the ones that watch the channels being vocal. Now if they lost all the BBC channels (know they can't) but in principle and then the number of people who complained would be 10 fold and thus it would be a different ball game.

Come the 1st I will be after a reduction in my bill or I will be cancelling. Discovery channels are the ones I watch the most through the night when I'm having one of my many sleepless nights

They've both stepped it up.

Discovery have started more campaigning on social media, trying to get Sky customers to complain.

Sky have just started a new advert promoting their documentary stuff with the tag line "discover more".

This is happening and I don't see it turning around any time soon, at least not until Discovery is on the brink of bankruptcy.

Just called support and they say it's not guaranteed yet so are unwilling to offer anything and suggest I call back on 1st if they do go (which we all know they will). If I don't get a discount I'll cancel.
