Sky Sports to remain home of Formula 1 until 2029 after deal extended in all Sky markets

I hear Apple TV are considering bidding for the F1 as they do for the MLS. Hopefully they get some decent presenters.
Sky F1 went from great to god awful. It's more pantomime than racing these days which has really put me off.
If Apple bid $2bn a season, as one of the linked articles suggests, then the subs are going to be extortionate.

It depends on their strategy. They may see it as a way of getting more people into the ecosystem.
Like mentioned above, with Sky you pay for sports which includes premier league, golf and cricket. That said, if you want to watch all types of sports then maybe it will end up costing more overall?

And you can more than likely kiss F1TV goodbye. They'll want everyone on AppleTV+.

Surely that's the only reason to do it.
I'm actually surprised it's taken big tech this long to eat into sky etcs dominance.

Live sport etc are surely big attractive targets to lock people into a system. And it's apples bread and butter.

I will not subscribe to appletv unless it's under 10 a month.. Which it won't be.

AppleTV+ is quite reasonable compared to Netflix etc though? I think £4.99 per month? I guess they can use the subs as loss leaders for everyone to buy their hardware to watch it on. Can you watch ATV+ on any non Apple devices?

Is your point that you think they aren't going to grab as much cash as possible because they already have a ridiculous amount? Because the last few years of corporate behaviour is casting some doubt on that one.
I just mean they don't necessarily need to up their prices. Also, maybe more likely they'd introduce a separate sub addon for sports no? I'd imagine it'd pee a lot of their TV/Film fans off having a price rise because Apple brought the rights to a sport they don't follow.

I’d love anyone but Sky to have the rights.
Be careful what you wish for. I can still remember ITV cutting to adverts as Schumacher and Alonso were fighting over the lead with a handful of laps remaining only to come back and one had passed the other and they had to show it in replay because they were contracted to a minimum number of ad breaks during the race.

That’s still better than paying Sky.

@Feek are you still on the original £10/month deal they did back in 2012 which got you the HD package along with SSF1?

My parents were still on that until recently when they had a call out of the blue from Sky to offer then a new contract which put gave them Sky Sports effectively for free for 18 months, then full rate after that. My assumption is that they're trying to move people off that old £10/month F1 channel deal, but unfortunately my parents took the offer.

Can you get sky without needing a dish now, or is that only if you get the Sky Glass with a TV from them? Do you also need to get Sky broadband specifically to not have a dish?
