Sky Stream - Launches *NOW* (post #1 for pricing / page #5 for pics)

No, it’s got more channels than Now, particularly on the sports side.

What sky sports channels are missing on now tv?

Just checked on the website, do you get more channels for the £20 addon?

edit:

Looks like a single list to me.

My mistake, I thought you could get BT Sport, Eurosport, etc. that you don’t get on Now TV.

Since the first round of software updates mine have worked great over wireless. I've got a mesh system and have 74Mbps and can run 1 TV and 2 Boxes using UHD/HDR and Atmos with no issues. The box originally caused issues with my eARC connected soundbar but since turning off HDMI Control its worked perfectly which doesn't impact anything else. Performance has also improved dramatically since switching to the Sky router over the BT Modem and Asus XT8 I was previously running, channels start up almost instantly now, including 4K HDR and apps, while taking a few seconds to launch, once running are very responsive.

You'll struggle to get consistent UHD with 22Mb, even hard-wired with ethernet.
I have 74Mb download speed, have the puck connected via ethernet and wifi turned off. It still sometimes struggles when anyone else in the house does anything that might take up a bit of bandwidth.
I've been through 2 boxes now and two remotes. They're all the same - glitchy, slow and they absolutely destroy any CEC linking with other devices attached to your TV.
It feels like a streaming box from 2015 trying to run a 2022 streaming service. The apps on board my 4 year old TV run quicker than any of them on Stream. It takes 2 seconds for a channel to appear when you select it from the TV guide and click up and down to channel hop. Painful.
It's getting dumped in a month. **** poor. Shame really as the picture and sound quality is good. The box just isn't powerful enough and the playlist simply doesn't work. It's just a bad list of programmes you like in a really random order.
Thanks for the reply. It does kind of reinforce my belief that sticking with Q and our TV apps is the right thing to do at the moment.

So a couple of weeks in using this and I’ve had no issues at all and don’t miss Q. I actually find it better than Q as for example when I use the playlist and when I go back to watch shows via catch-up which I’ve added to the playlist it uses the native ITV, 4 app etc I’ve got pihole setup and I’ve yet to see an ad, no need to fast forward any ads like I did on Q as it doesn’t show them. I’d imagine that might change with the new ITVX app coming out soon I don’t know but yeah so far it’s been great for me.

Minor annoyance there’s now ads when watching shows on demand. You can fast forward them but it’s a bit annoying trying to be sold a Volvo every 15 minutes.

Just want to point out, if nobody has already, that Sky Stream does NOT currently support automatic frame rate switching.

This is a problem because any 24/50FPS content is sent to your TV as a 60 Hz signal, causing terrible stutter and judder. The same happens in games when you have V Sync on, and the frame rate drops below 60 Hz, except it’s doing it constantly.

It’s a horrendous experience, so I would advise waiting until they have fixed it, if they ever do.

I think there is a setting for anti judder in the video preferences. Haven't looked in the settings for a long time.

Judder reduction in the settings merely switches the output of the third party apps to 60Hz (Netflix/Prime/Disney+ etc.) All live streaming channels are kept at 50Hz.
All Sky Cinema content and all US shows shot at 24fps are still the same sped up versions shown via satellite.

I am moving house soon and would rather not have to have a dish put up (the angle of the house means the dish would look REAL unsightly in the position in needs to go in) and my contract still has 11 months to go. Any idea if Sky will move me to Stream without much fuss?

Should be fine as long as you agree to an 18 month contract on Stream. They won't switch you mid-Q contract to a 31 day rolling Stream contract.
Just make sure you have fast and stable broadband at the new house, preferably with an ethernet connection to the Stream puck, and make sure you're happy to lose the ability to properly record. Fast forwarding and rewinding on Stream is an absolute ball ache too.

The unknown of if it will work ok worries me. I will have ~65mbit internet and can connect it via ethernet but if the service itself is just rubbish or we don't get on with it can I go back to Q? Especially since they will want their 2TB box back and I don't feel like paying another £100 for another 2TB Q box should i feel the need to "revert".

Maybe I just need to get a dish put up by a private installer that will do a better job than the Sky "won't do anything other than a bog standard install in the worst possible place" installer.

If you're used to the Q system and that style of recording works for you then yes, I'd advise getting a dish privately installed (with wideband LNB) and take your Q box with you, then just tell Sky you've moved.
You can always give Stream a trial in the future - you have 31 days to see how it works for you before Sky ask for the Q equipment back, although it's been well over a month since I switched from Q to Stream and they still haven't asked for my old 2Tb Q box back...

I've been running this now since April, as part of the Sky Glass service, and other than early on its worked pretty much flawlessly since. We have 3 devices, Glass TV and 2 x Pucks, all connected via WiFi using Eero 6 Pro mesh, on a FTTC line which gets about 70-72 Mbps, and we can watch them all at the same time without issues, that includes running 4K HDR Atmos, with films and F1. The experience has been very good. the integration with the apps works well, being able to skip through ads using catchup on Channel 4, ITV and sky is great, as is restarting a program from the start which is part way through when watching live, fast forwarding and rewinding work great too. Image quality is very very good across all channels, and the lack of cables and dish is a massive positive for us, we'd not gone for sky due to my wife saying no to a dish.
