Sky Stream - Launches *NOW* (post #1 for pricing / page #5 for pics)

Minor annoyance there’s now ads when watching shows on demand. You can fast forward them but it’s a bit annoying trying to be sold a Volvo every 15 minutes.

This is winding me up!! It was bad enough having ads at the start, but now they put them into the actual show itself.

as mentioned before, I'm wondering if pihole can do it? Might be worth looking into

HOW MUCH!!! forget that, I'll get a mini PC and install linux on it

Skys got really angry at me for finding out how to block ads on sky stream, so removing this post

Note to sky, stop putting ads everywhere!!!!!

Heh. Just saw that if you pay an extra £5 a month, you can fast forward through all the adverts. That would make things much less annoying to watch. I still haven't decided if I will get it yet, though.

Anyone have it? Thoughts? Did you have Q previously?

We have Q currently and our existing deal / contract has just ended so the price has gone from about £30 up to £40.

Sky Stream seems to be £26 for the same content as you don't have to buy a HD pack as extra. Should we get Sky Steam or look to renew Q on another deal?

Both Q and Stream will probably end up costing the same. Q obviously has a box to record and Stream gives us a Netflix account (we use a family members already so not much difference).

My thoughts are get Stream as it's the newer platform and allows me to get rid of the disk cables coming into the living room.

Not sure if it’s been publicly announced yet but Stream will become the default option soon with Q as a fallback option if the interest isn’t up to it for Stream.

It's okay. The voice search on the remote is brilliant, although it freaks my mum out and she nearly had me cancel the whole bloody thing it as she hates voice activate **** (even though you have to press the button to activate the mic)

I've had to restart it a few times, not sure if that's a Stream or internet issue, overall I like it though after moving from Virgin. Personally I love the voice search.

My costs as per the sky thread:

Paying:
£23 a month for broadband - 500Mb
£22 a month for TV with entertainment

Total: £45 a month

Then I choose to add Netflix 4k for extra netflix seats at £8, making it £53 a month all in, which I don't think is too bad. considering my netflix is bundled.

I've switched over to Sky stream now. Picture and audio quality is better than Q but will take a bit of adjusting to with how the stream box is used.

Managed to nab it for £82 a month.

Sky Entertainment
Sky Sports
Sky Ultra HD and Atmos
Sky Ad skipping
Netflix UHD
500mbps broadband

The uhd Atmos and advert skipping is still a scam to me but hey ho suckers like me pay it so  Didn't bother with the movies.

Can confirm the box does do Dolby Vision as well. What I personally like is everything is seamless. So if I want to watch a movie on Netflix or Disney or Amazon etc then I just press play and it just starts playing it. Doesn't need to open the app and flick through to it (it obviously does do that but it's too quick for the eyes to even see it take place). If you close the app and then go back to say the episode or movie, it will continue from where it left off. Can also browse other stuff like the guide etc and it will continue to play in the bottom right hand corner.

The remote feels much more sturdier and nice to hold and is also backlit. Doesn't need line of sight to the box either and it's so small you can hide it anywhere.

Moving house any day now, so makes it much easier to move as well as they can transition stream and broadband within 24-48 hours and no engineer visits needed! Glad to be done with the dish and cables being ran.

All in all a positive experience from me but only been a day so let's see what happens over the 30 day period while I still have the chance to revert back to Q if necessary.

Well for 12 months until they put it up by RPI plus 5% or whatever arbitrary figure they decide and you are then paying probably £100+ and you have to do the cancellation dance.

Crossing my fingers for you - did they state what happens if the BB goes down so you lose TV access as well as the internet? Do they refund you for both items separately or only compensate you for the loss of the broadband, and tough luck on the TV?

They did mention something when reading the t&c's but can't say I was fully listening haha. I've had broadband with them for 5 years now and never had a single drop out, so touch wood all will all be fine.

I've had stream a few days now having come from a Q set up.

So far so good. Liking the backlit remote / puck boxes are a great size - PQ/SQ seems to be better than what I was getting from the Q boxes.

I'll even go as far as saying the glass TV is very good! Granted it won't worry a decent OLED and dedicated soundbar but for an all in one 'budget' TV its very good indeed!
