Sky UK launching HDR Wednesday 27th May.

I've not had a chance to look at any HDR content since the roll-out on Wednesday, plan on taking a look over the weekend. Looking at the information on my box:

"hardwareName" : "Falcon"
"hardwareModel" : "ES240"
"deviceID" : "32B1070480658479"
"hdrCapable" : false

So, do I need to do anything to make that flag "True"?

No my new one is hlg compatible and even that shows the hdrcapable flag as false.
I just tried it then the hlg hdr came up on my tv.

Cool - cheers for update. It's a 2TB from about 18 months ago and the Model is on the list - so shouldn't be an issue.
I'll give it a go over the weekend.
Ta.

What? New to Sky UHD get a compatible box.

Be with them for years but have been given incompatible box then tough luck!

As usual pay for something with Sky that others get for free because they are new to the service.

Simple then.

Cancel and leave.

Sign up for new contract after as a new customer.

The point being that Sky say that those present customers without the correct box (one that is still owned by Sky and rented to the customer), will not be able to get a box capable of displaying HDR content.

That means that there are customers paying exactly the same amount of money but are not getting the same service levels.

It doesn't really bother me, but hopefully Sky will eventually get around to supplying their customers with the equipment required to get the service that is being paid for.

If it was the situation that the boxes belonged to the customer after the initial contract period expired (as it used to be), then I could understand why boxes would not be upgraded, however, Sky took the decision to rent to boxes to customers.

For 20 hours of content, really, I wonder how anyone is coping with lockdown? Sky have stated they will engage in a process of replacing non hdr boxes and would have done so sooner if it hadn't been for the coronavirus.

Shock horror that sky isn't good at customer service.

They have always ripped off long term customers and gave new ones the best deals.

The simple solution is to leave and re join.

I've lived at my home 3 years and 9 months in that time I've left sky 3 times. And re joined twice.

I've now left for good. I don't think what they provide is worth it.

Well looks like mine is a 32B0 model so no HDR for me.
One more tick into the reasons to leave column.

Same here, not all that bothered TBH though.

I tend to use Netflix, Amazon or even iplayer or anything UHD related as Sky's quality is so poor.

Contract is up in December & it's going to take a very good offer to make me stay this time.

I cut cinema a long time ago as I had watched all current and old films that I had any interest in.
New films to purchase I check is it free on netflix or Prime.
If its available I will purchase from Netflix or Prime before Sky as they are always cheaper and the quality can be better.

"its overpriced and I've left"
not sure thread has gone that far ... but, by the side, my animosity to sky, is that everyone knows an older relative who is paying over the odd's because they don't know what negotiated prices are availible, it's not like netflix/prime

I think Sky Q is great. The system works flawlessly for me with the 2TB main and two minis.

The only issue I have is that the minis are not UHD compatible but as they are connected via a wifi mesh I am not surprised.

I am just grateful we live in a world with options. i like sky i like netflix i like prime i like disney. yes its a lot of money its plenty of options going the legal route. far less going the ilegal route but id rather stay legal.
As i say in this day and age there is something everyone.
