Sky UK launching HDR Wednesday 27th May.

This seems fairly comprehensive: https://www.pocket-lint.com/tv/news/sky/152341-how-to-watch-hdr-on-sky-q

I'm an early adopter (May 2016) so obviously have a 32B0, so no HDR for me.

Doesn't bother me right now as very limited content but, if and when they start adding HDR to all the movies, it'll become a bigger issue. Contract is up in Sep so we'll see where we're at then.

I was an early adopter as well and 32BO58 is mine and in the same boat.
I did ring Sky earlier tonight though. The guy i was talking to was very knowledgeable and seemed to know straight away what i was talking about. It all fell down though after i said i wanted a new Q box. He put me on hold so that he could talk to his manager. They were ok with replacing the box but only with an engineers visit.
I explained i was more than capable of replacing it with no visit at all, just send me the box and i'll send the old one back. Point blank refusal to do that. Ok, send an engineer than, can't do that sir during this time. The next bit of the conversation was the most interesting though, he said that all boxes that needed to be replaced would be over the coming months according to the info he was looking at. So maybe they are thinking about just sending new boxes in the next few months, rather than the ridged engineer only replacements.

Isnt it funny how one person get treated from another person.
I had no issues getting my box swapped. and not needing an engineer to do mine, mine is being delivered tomorrow via dpd. as i have mentioned above all i have to do is unplug the cables take out the viewing card and simply take out the new one from the box and replace it with my current one, no questions asked. although like i said he did need to do a video call to check how my signal was doing, i had to show him through the various menus. ect and he asked to look at various settings. . and i know its a common thing because of the email sky sent me telling me exactly what to do so this is common, i guess its pot luck who you speak to . although i was actually talking to the guys from the sky q tech support team who was you speaking to ?.

I did originally ring up and ask about the signature pack and move to that to see if it would save me any money(which it did) he then said i had been with sky for a long time, and he was the one who said about my sky q box being quite old now, i then said well yes it is i would love a new one ect ect. he then put me through to the sky q tech support guys. was asked how the box was performing i explained a few little issues we had experienced ect. and when he was viewing the menus ect it kept freezing and stuttering, which it does , and then said "well its a new box for you" i was then worried tbh and i clearly said i do not want a refurbished one. the wife has a lot of recording on it and i do nto want to waste time we doing all that for it to be replaced again in a few months.
I see a lot of people complaining about sky i have had nothing but stella service, when they have been in the wrong they have always admitted it and fixed the odd problems we have had.

no difference of treatment if you ring up under a credible pretext (that current box misbehaving) you get a new box

Well tbh i think they are ready for ep[le claiming there box is playing up like i said the tech guy actually made sure it was. and tbh i even said to the first normal none txt guy its not really a problem. Also in our house we do have x2 essential workers so that might have also been it also.

By then Sky will have a replacement scheme in place, probably due to a relaxation in the Corona virus rules. They were going to have this at launch, I am led to believe, however the current conditions stymied it..

To watch a program about Lemurs? The risk is you could actually end up with a faulty one....

I agree that the content is not compelling, at all,
it remains confusing that this has been running in Italy for several years already, did they think it was any good. ?

I could not find any reviews of what Italians or NJK/japanese users think of the PQ, because it is controversial whether HLG10 is a good solution versus netflix DV/HDR10
https://www.nctatechnicalpapers.com...cable-system-hdr-deployment-with-hlg/download.
Some of the newer 4k tv's allow adjustment of tone curve for DV/HDR10, I 'm not sure about HLG

relations wouldn't want to swap boxes as you loose your old recordings, Sky had nonetheless quickly replaced their unreliable remote, when I said just call them.

What was the basis that they replaced it on?

As i said i did not ring up to replace it. the guy i spoke to about the new signature package i was asking about asked how i was getting on with sky q and said we had it a long time and asked if we was happy with it. i replied yes but it can be noisy at times and sometimes the menu stutters and lags and it can get hot also . he then dealt with me about my broad band and the package and said he would speak to the sky q tech support i then cot transferred through to them and then he asked me about it. i actually said its fine, we had a lot of recordings on there, he then initiated a video call he then asked me to go through various menus. for which it was stuttering and playing up with lag ect. then he went to the software version.and also checked the signal and then went into another me, that also then caused problems, he then said its a very old vs 1 box said i must have been one of the first to have one. he also asked me about if i would be comfortable installing my self. and a few other questions.he said the box you have there is on loan. he said i can see for myself you have problems with it. lets get it replaced. i actually argued with him about it because i knew the wife would kick off about loosing her recordings lol. but he said its better to replace it now. i said ok then. how long will it take, he then replied about a week i said ok thats good then lets go ahead i even said that will give the wife time to catch up with some of her recordings lol. we then ended the chat and video chat. an hour or so later i get an email of sky and then an email from dpd lol next day delivery wife was fuming lol.

As i said i did not want to replace it they insisted. He did also say they was flooded with customers ringing up with fake problems trying to get there boxes replaced. hense why they asked questions and did video chat. he also said i was genuine because we did not actually want to replace our box and ofc the wife was shouting dont send a new box il loose all of my recordings lol.

So what version have you ended up with? Interesting that they are investigating bogus reporting...

http://192.168.x.xx:9006/as/system/information
I had the four sight to do the above test on the old and now on the new.
old
"hardwareName" : "Falcon"
"deviceID" : "32B061"
new
hardwareName" : "Titan"
"deviceID" : "32B206"

The box was a brand new one even came with the new style remote(The wife was happy about this ) lol. Although not very happy with loosing all her recordings lol

Someone who had their box replaced, so they can view 20 hours of HDR they'll probably never watch, and ended up with this:
I have just had my box replaced and I am having constant issues with it

1. Black screen even though it says my box is on

2. Blue screen with a picture but no sound and missing colours

3. Black screen even though I can see all the menus and the channel I am on
Can't say I didn't warn anyone so be aware...

Sorry your having problems i did not thank the stars.
Have you tried to change your hdmi cable ?
Did you change the picture settings to match your tv?
Have you tried setting your picture settings to just 1080p?
Are you connecting the new box to an external home theatre amp, and looked at the settings in that ?
Did you download the new software/firmware ?
Did you turn eco mode off ?
Did you try a reset ?
Those are the things i would check.
If you still have problems just give the sky q team a ring im sure they can sort you out.
Let us know how you get on.

It's not me, sorry should have made that clear. I pasted it from the Sky community forums. Just to illustrate where obtaining replacement boxes can go wrong..

This is why I haven't. It's not worth it at this point, I have more than enough HDR content to enjoy from other services.

Once sky start putting new shows and movie premiers up in HDR that's when I will be looking to change the box.
