SkyF1 vs Channel 4 coverage of F1

If I pay via Play Store, do I always need to be behind the VPN when the app is open, or just when I set it up/pay for it.

Is F1TV available on Firestick? Some things I read say yes, some no.

EDIT: perhaps we need a dedicated thread for this

Is there commentary on F1TV? Does it make a difference which country I choose to use via VPN?

world feed has sky sadly, but pitwall channel has its own team. driver feeds have no commentary just the raw sound and radio :)

Post race is also their own team, they dont follow sky post race.

It was Alex Jacques last season, who most probably know from F2 and F3 regular commentary duty, but Ben Edwards stepped down from C4 at the end of last season and Jacques has replaced him, so who knows who will be providing the F1TV Pit Lane commentary this season.

To get an idea of the Pit Lane feed, F1 showed how they covered the dramatic end of the British GP last season:

How F1 TV's Pit Lane Channel covered the dramatic finale of 2020 British Grand Prix

Will continue watching highlights on CH4, see what its like with Alex Jacques.
May consider trying F1TV at some point.

That coverage looks pretty good to be honest.

Once the race has aired, is it available to watch on demand?

yep and almost immediately :)

the service really shows up sky.

you can also view multiple feeds at once so e.g. follow hamilton same time as pit feed and also live timing screen as well.

The one thing that would make me sign up to sky f1 is if f1tv became part of the package.

The F1TV app is inefficiently coded though. I had to upgrade to a much more powerful Android box to run it smoothly. If you've got something near Shield power you should be fine. But something S905 based, you'll struggle to run it.

Should be fine if you're using a recent phone / tablet.

I didn't realise that F1TV was already getting races of the current season. When I was subbed in 2019 it didn't have live races or even that current seasons races. Good to see it's risen in quality.

I caved and went for Sky last year as I like to watch the races live as I was already spending a fortune on NowTV subscriptions for rubbish 720p quality so the upgrade for UHD races made it worth while.

Going forwards when Sky lose their exclusivity in the UK I'd much rather subscribe directly to F1TV than go through Murdoch

I enjoyed sky F1 and liked most of the content, but the price is a killer now.

Is the app required or can it be watched on their website? Or is there a Windows app?

I've only got a Firestick 4k so sounds like it might struggle. I might be better off plugging the PC into the TV, or watching at my desk

You realise, as a result of this thread (and many other forums I'm sure) - sky engineers and lawyers are desperately trying to counteract us being able to watch F1 via this app. :p

Of course. But there is many other discussions about f1tv over the net, so I am sure this battle will have been waging for a while.

Sadly sky protect their position via exclusivity of content rather than just making sure they provide better content. As a result its inevitable this situation comes up.

Same.

Highlights is great as most of f1 is boring.
And it's on at inconvenient times.
And its ridiculously expensive

C4 is a winner all round for me
