Skyrim remastered free for pc if you own skyrim already

Clearing things up:

If you own #Skyrim and all its add-ons or own Legendary Edition on Steam, you'll get a free upgrade to Skyrim Special Edition on Oct 28 #BE3

Removed the twitter link incase of swearing.

Nice one, but that's forever away. O_O

Well, most people are on Windows 10 and the only 'mods' that give close to the remastered graphics are ENBs, which do not work on Windows 10 unless you're lucky. So remastered is a way to get Skyrim looking pretty again on Windows 10. :D

It looks like game engine overhaul, shader update, the textures look the same, maybe higher res, (official HD content as standard?) the models certainly do. That'd be a lot of work to overhaul rather than the game engine which is probably just adapted from FO4's.

If the engine overhaul involves introducing that Gameworks carp it'd likely cost more fps than an ENB does.

I do hope it's just an injection. A complete overhaul of the game engine is literally going to break SKSE and every single mod which I think majority of Skyrim owners/players won't be prepared to do just because heavily modded Skyrim can take months to get working properly (assuming you're going for overhauls for nearly everything and get them working together). Also, can you imagine every mod author having to go back and completely overhauling their mods to work with TES5.5? 90% wouldn't bother, and people who want to play the remaster on PC aren't going to have a lot of mods to choose from.

I've never modded Fallout 4, does anyone know if it CTDs on conflicts and master issues like Skyrim? Heck if it's ported to the Fallout 4 engine, could actually be a good thing as Skyrim is unstable at the best of times.

The official line is you'll get a 'free upgrade'

My concern?

This (assuming you want to try it) will 'upgrade' your current skyrim installation and overwrite the files in the installation folder.

You can pretty much write off ENB, and any lighting mods you have installed. There's no mention of texture upgrades, and nobody knows what its going to do to racemenu etc.

Oh well. Back to the prisoners rags again...

Todd Howard has confirmed the textures will be higher than the official HD retexture pack which was 1024px, it probably has both 2048px and 4096px textures.

Just copy and paste your installation somewhere else.

Just rename ur existing builds folder with say "modded" on the end then u can install a new skyrim with the new stuff without it affecting ur modded build.

I was thinking about playing through Skyrim again with a ton of mods as I didn't really bother with them the first time around. I might wait for this update before I start.

So its like a premodded skyrim? It's good they are giving it away free after that whole paid mods fiasco a while back.

Hopefully its separate in the steam library, rather than updating the original. I'd love to play through again some time and get the achievements again.
