Skyrim remastered free for pc if you own skyrim already

The only worrying thing I can see happening and Gopher had the same opinion in his video yesterday is that paid mods could make a come back with the release of Bethesda net and console supporting mods... with it being in Bethesda's control and not Valve/Steam it could be plausible.

Wonder what they'll do with SKSE mods.

Wonder what they'll do with SKSE mods.

In the short term they won't work if its a x64 executable, it'd need to be recompiled to a 64bit version. And since it basically accesses game code directly all the offsets would have to be re-discovered and fixed up. So its anybodys guess how long that would take, assuming they can be bothered to go through it all over again. The guy behind SkyUI has already stated its unlikely he/they will bother converting it.

Is this going to be like a patch or official mod for the vanilla game or a standalone release? Would you have to restart the game?

Also if you only have the base game already, can you just get the DLCs now to get this free when it comes out?

The mods are what made skyrim great and this remaster is just going to break pretty much most of them. A lot of authors have already moved on to other projects like Fallout 4 or other games. I don't think it'll take off all that well but we'll see.

If it doesnt break mods could well be good, better than having a billion high res texture mods only to find in game one item in the vanilla "hd" only to be dissappointed and have to spend hours trawling to find a good, well themed mod to fix it

Best reveal I've seen so far, thank you OP.

EDIT: Now they just need to bring out a Fallout 4 next gen version... oh it IS next gen! Fallout 3 & Vegas would do :)

Skyrim + all DLC is now outselling Fallout 4 + DLC, so I'm guessing lots of Legendary editions are being purchased.

Well played Bethedsa, well played. :D

ill stick with my modded version,i think it looks better anyway :) oh I'm running windows 10 and have had NO problems at all with any enb or mod ive tried

they also announced they are working on a new skyrim game. cant wait to see about that.

I assume you mean new Elder Scrolls game. They also stated the technology they want to implement is far off so we won't be seeing it anytime soon. In fact they said they will debut some of the technology in other projects before it makes its way into ES. Tentative estimates that it's 2019/20 for first snippets.

Tes 6 is likely to be a 2021-2024 release imo. Todd's already said how ridiculous some of the concepts are and how they are impossible at the minute.

Those are huge claims though, as if they didn't already have a lot to live up too...

i heard the biggest plus for pc users is that they are changing the executable to a 64bit though which improves stability of the bat since you arent limited 4gigs of ram and have to use things like enb boost to alter your ram/vram usage.

that being said it might hit performance due to how 64bit has a more complicate code

Seems a bit of a waste of time with all the mods already available. Why not spend time on Skyrim 2. :)

The devs ported Skyrim to the Xbox One as an technical demo to see what could be done on the console with no intention of release it. Now they decided might aswell release it if all the work has been done already. So this is really for the console community but if they didn't release a PC version then they would have upset many of the PC community.

Its nice to have the option while its there and for free despite all the good mods out there already.
