Short answer, not really.

You would be much better getting an i5 750, a P55 board and the same RAM. Also, make sure you get a good CPU cooler and a powerful graphics card.

Yes, i have been using FS9 for over 8 years, my experience tells me that the E8600 was the best (i did have an i7)...

So that is the CPU i will go for, suggestions for a mobo and ram would be great :)

The E8600 is a total waste of money. The E8400 is a lot cheaper yet only 330mhz slower. Unfortunately it's out of stock at the moment but the same applies to the E8500, £55 cheaper but only 170mhz slower. Both overclock like demons.

In any case, building a 775 rig from scratch now is foolish. Core i5/i7 or AMD is the way to go.

Did you actually have a i7 rig as you were only posting about overclocking possibilities on the 15th September and a "special cooler" that does'nt fit i7 out of the box.

FS9 is single threaded...
I had an i7, the only thing i was going to upgrade was the mobo, ram and cooler (and pastymuncher, if you check their site you'll find an adaptor for the i7)...

Apparently FS9 was designed around the time when E8400's where brought out, due to this they are more compatible with the game, i have tested this for myself and find it to be true...

But i am stuck on a motherboard and RAM....

The question begs, why by an e8600 when you could save £££ and overclock an e8400. Having said that I personally would be more inclined in buying new tech since more future releases will be optimised for it - my ten pence

Do you still have the i7 ?
I find it hard to believe that an i7 at 4GHz wouldnt perform at least similarly to an E8400 at 4GHz.
Its rather silly to buy more 775 stuff especially at those prices.

+1 for i5 or i7.

Let me first say that I know very little about flight sim games, but my question is : Why invest in £350 worth of last gen kit for Flight Sim 9 when you could be using Flight Sim X and be using current tech kit (I read that X has multi-thread support). Or is there a particular reason for sticking with FS9?

There is a reason for sticking with FS9, this is that all my paid for aircraft and scenery is for FS9.
FSX is multithreaded, but this does not mean more gaming performance it simply means that 1 core if for 3D rendering and 1 for Finalizing...

I was just asking for the best mobo for a E8400, E8500 or E8600....

P5Q deluxe is great. If you want to save some money, the P5Q Pro Turbo is very good and will likely meet your needs well. IMHO these are better than the X48 board as these P45 overclock well, use newer tech and require cheaper DDR2 RAM.
