sleep paralysis

I've had it before and it is disconserting to say the least. Varied though from just being unable to move for a bit right through to full on chest crush with scary figure in the corner watching me.

I get some weird moments, its like im stuck in that pre sleep state so that I know whats going on, but cant control it.

I fit, not like foaming at the mouth but my limbs spasm and I cant control it, that heart attack like feeling and I used to get hallucinations... especially snakes and spiders, infact whenever im in this state and try to focus i generally see a massive spider above me and I brick it but cant do anything.. then all of a sudden its gone and im back to normal.

A lot of people seem to see snakes or spiders weirdly.

I suffer with this. When I'm about to nod off I usually hear a really loud whooshing sound and I get tunnel vision, then see all sorts of stuff lol.

My worst occasion of this was when I was at uni, I came in from the gym and went for a nap. I left my door open. I had the whooshing sound and tunnel vision kicked in. I then thought my house mate at the time came in and punched me? lol. After this I heard what was like really loud screaming and then something came out from under my bed and started pulling at my legs. It genuinely felt like it was pulling me off the bed, I was awoken by that feeling of falling you get sometimes when you are dreaming, if you understand what I mean by that.

I went in to my house mates room and asked him if he just punched me haha. Think he could tell I just had an ordeal as I was shaking and could probably see my heart beating through my shirt. My dad suffers from this pretty badly. He said the only thing he can do is control his breathing. He uses this to alert my mum who then wakes him up.

Once I felt like my Dad was there, and I tried my damned hardest to get up/wake up so that I could say goodbye to him when he went to work.
Every other time, it just feels like I can open my eyes a tiny bit, and I'm trying to get up but can't.

Now thats interesting. That "whooshing" noise happened to me twice in the same night ages ago. The first time it happened it was so weird that the shock woke me up. Nodded off and it happened again!

Really strange noise, sounded like what I imagine the noise of being sucked into a vacuum would sound like.

I used to get it all the time, something would happen and I wouldnt be able to move.

I have also been having some weird re-occurring dreams lately which is linked to something I used to have, I used to have my tongue pierced and eventually I took it out as the bar one day felt like it it was going to rip out my tongue, in the reccuring dreams I pull a massive bar (much bigger than a tongue bar, in fact something that shouldn't even fit in your mouth!) out of my tongue, and the dream is so vivid I can almost feel the pain of me pulling it out.

I don't know why I keep dreaming this

I've been getting it recently, completely out of the blue, freaked me out the first time but like others have said, it's just a pain in the butt now.

I want this to happen to me.
Is there any way to induce it?

(Not trolling)

Try lucid to induce lucid dreaming, that ought to result in sleep paralysis.

Yeah happened to me a couple of times not a biggy, might be frighetning the first time if you do not know what is happening but really is nothing to worry about, just slightly annoying. You might also hallucinate so don't be freaked out if you see demons. It is thanks to this paralysis mechanism(for sleep walkers this mechanism is broken) we don't walk around while we sleep.

That's it! For me, it sort of feels like my head is under some sort of pressure too. Also often happens to me on more than one occasion on a single night too, it's really weird. I Have to turn the TV on while I try to get to sleep to actually stop it from happening. I read somewhere that if you sleep on your back you are most likely to get it. Your tongue rolls backwards and covers up your air intake, therefore half waking you up.

Does this mainly happen when going to sleep or when waking up from sleep???

If you get this when you are going to sleep its called Hypotonia.

If you get this when you are waking up from sleep its called Hypnagogia.

The Hypnagogia can be symptoms of an onset of a migraine or something like
that.

I used to get this a lot.

Its stopped over the past few years now, but for a good while I'd be asleep but fully aware of everything around me.

I could sometimes move one finger or a toe, and if i was lucky annoy my girlfriend who eventually would wake me up properly. Quite frightening first time around, but I got used to it and it became quite funny :)

Its been a while now.

I read ages ago that its linked to human instincts from the days of old to basically make you aware that someone was close to you and almost prepare you.

i used to get it all the time for some reason i think it was because of all the late night pc gaming i did and i wasnt getting much sleep at the time, i used to wake up unable to move any part of my body apart from my toes and my fingers so i used to panic and try to wiggle my toes and fingers like crazy ntil i had enough feeling back in the rest of my body so that i could get up.

i used to imagine what would happen if i woke up choking i would litterally have died before i could sit up :(
you sort of get used to it but its still one of the worst experiences ive ever had also if someone broke in to your house and busted in to your room you wouldnt be able to move

I have only had this once in my life, it happened last year sometime. Woke up and could not move any part of my body but was aware of everything around me. At the time I remember my senses been really heightened like when you're scared of something, and was convinced there was somebody else in my bedroom. I was extremely scared if 'they' did do anything i was completely unable to defend myself. I can't really recall how long it lasted for, but it isn't something i'd like to experience again.

I've sufferd from this nearly all my adult life.

I've learnt/managed the ability, not through skill but through enduring experience, that i can reason my brain into recognising what it is that i'm experiencing (i stress this has taken years).

Although this sounds great you still have to endure the 5/10 minutes (or what ever the **** the real time is that's passed in dream world) until you've managed to 'semi rationalise' your brain into what it's experiencing.

The only kicker is that i still can't wake myself up - but at least i don't have the image/thought of someone in my room about to engage in activities, with a knife, that i'm sure my body wouldn't appreciate.
