SLEEP - when do you start, how long, and when do you get up?

it's not so much the earliness, but 1h25mins each way means you're effectively giving up 12.5hrs a week of being neither at home/enjoying yourself or at work earning money.

or in other terms, thats 27 days a year, nearly a whole month spent commuting rather than earning money or having quality time with family/freinds. and that's before you counter in the fact you're paying for the privilege of spending this time on a packed commuter train.

i realise that statements obviously soaked in my bias against wasting time commuting, but that's the numbers as to why i don't like the idea.

Don't get me wrong - if I didn't have to commute as much as I did, I wouldn't. But I get home to a nice house in the countryside which is just so nice, and not have to be in London!

The commute isn't too bad, I get a seat, and either get on with some work, sleep, or watch some movies/tv. It is a long time to spend commuting, but I do enjoy what I do, and allows a good quality of life, and my weekends are great. Even if I were closer to home, I'd probably still work similar hours, but I'd just get home a bit quicker! However my package would be hard to get outside of London. And whilst I have a young family, I'd rather do what I can to support / prepare us for the future and then calm down a little maybe as and when I get older. It is tough though, I'm not going to lie. I'm just used to being tired now! :D

I'm a night owl so my works "flexi-time" works amazingly well for me, it's the most refreshed I've felt in years!

0830 wake
0930 start
1800 finish
2000 food
0130-0200 bed

So only 6.5 to 7hrs kip but much better than 0200 to 0630 for 20+ years at my last place..................and No, I can't "just go to bed earlier", I'm 40, trust me it's not a "late might playing video games thing" :D

One of the reasons I go in early is to ensure I get a seat, likewise on the way home. The time in is spent reading the time back catching up on viewing. It is horses for courses. Personally I would hate to have to drive to work now as you have to retain a level of concentration of driving (although several clearly don't but that is a whole other thread).

Hardly slept at all with the heat and now I can't get back to sleep because of the incessant tweeting of one bird outside the window

I've not been able to sleep in past 7am for years. Lately I'm waking up at 6am...

I miss the days I could sleep for long periods.

I'm usually in bed for half 10 to 11.

weekdays I go to bed 10:30ish. Up at 6am. HATE waking up. Am always tired but going to bed earlier just makes the evenings shorter and doesnt make me feel any better.

As of late it's been 11/12pm then up at half 5. Weekends it's a little later and around half 7 wake up.

I can more than cope on 5-6 1/2 hours, the early starts are purely to squeeze some gym in before work at 7 and the late nights are because my only real time off is Mondays mad Friday evenings so I squeeze as much time out of those days as I can. Then the rest of the weekdays I'm working 7am-8pm so by the time I'm home at half 8 and sorted myself for the following day/eaten I end up winding down with around an hour to myself before bed. Saturday Sunday is only ever 10am-6pm so I get some free time before and after then as well.

One of my neighbours doesn't like their dog in the house so when rain isn't due, they keep it in the garden to which it barks literally ALL night.

Dreading when it's hot and I have to leave a window open. It's normal to be woken by barking at 4am, the dog likes that time.

Going to call the dog warden if they keep on doing it .. their next door neighbour sold their house because they were so sick of it.

I usually get up at 5am for starting work at 6am. I don't usually go to bed until after midnight though. Because of that I end up having an afternoon nap after work which in turn means I'm not tired in the evening resulting in me going to bed late again. It's not a good routine to be in.

On my last day off I didn't get up until 10am though.
