Sleeping Dogs

For people who have played more than me- Do you get to use any of the gameplay elements shown to you outside of the scripted storyline moments? ...I mean things like camera hacking/lockpicking, are there opportunities to do it outside of parts if the story where you are actually told to?

The game has all the elements to make a Deus Ex like game, where you could play the game using whichever methods you want. It is a slight shame there aren't any opportunities to experiment with gameplay in this way.
 
I'm getting weird issues in the game, like it will be smooth sometimes when I launch the game then randomly start having slowdown / stutter after about an hour or so, the othertimes it will be smooth and I get the odd hiccup.

on an i5 3570k, 560 gtx and 8gb ram but I'm on nvidia beta drivers, you think reverting to an official would help? I tried lowering the Ambient Occlusion and Density to medium but still have the issue :S

As much as I love the game its starting to become an annoyance

Yes the drugs bust invole camera hacking outside of story as a side mission can earn money. When you progress do favours etc you get the camera locations to hack if you bring up your map press X on controller it shows shrines/cameras etc.

As for lock picking for buildings no but lockboxes you have to look for and crack.

Whats more annoying is everytime an officer gets close you may get 1 punch in before you are grappled and arrested (you can space bar out of it but they cut loose after a few seconds). There needs to be some sort of disarming technique to get their weapons off them.


Running the game on a i5 3570K and GTX 680 both overclocked, the game play is smooth and silky especially with the HD texture pack added in aswel. Not run a benchmark yet but will do tonight. With everything maxed out i find i lag at some spots with fps maybe dropping below 40fps? But will confirm with a benchmark. With shadows turned down a bit and slightly less AA, the gameplay is very very smooth and of course i have Vsync turned off aswel.

So far the game is very good, exciting and i love the moves you can do and grapple techniques, throwing your opponents through windows and into fans.. all good fun! would be awesome with a bit more gore aswel. A few more updates to polish up the loose ends will see this game in any game chart i think.

You can counter when police officers takes you down to escape.
 
Also, through collecting the figures (go on a date with one of the girls to make them show in the mini-map) and through upgrading your other stats, you learn disarming moves which work on people with melle weapons and guns, including cops.

im gunna have to stop playing this till i sort this crashing out had to restart my pc 4 times today because of it, im on a fresh install on win7 aswell and its the only game i have on steam atm.

any ideas anybody???
 
do you have 3d drivers stuff installed? even if you dont have a 3d monitor try it?
someone on another forum was saying it stopped there game crashing.

personally ive not had a single crash yet and ive played for around 17hours in total now

Having a lot of fun playing this, I'm just running around picking fights with the red guys on the map for money. Died a couple of times to the Fat guys though as they keep on grabbing me.

counter using dim'ak or something like that when you unlock it. Anyone know how to throw knives at people yet?
 
to continue on from me saying my gfx card fans are quite loud on this game, in crossfire ive noticed my primary card is 99% active and my 2nd is about 12% is this good/bad? never looked at it before as havent had the need
 
just borrowed a mates wired xbox controller the game is so much better on it its just taking some getting used to as i hardly ever use consoles, once i've learned the buttons for everything its going to be much easy in melee combat, driving feels better on it the only downside is shooting from cars its a lot slower on a game pad for me but i can put up with that.
 
I won't have time to play it tonight but i have it downloaded and ran the benchmark to get an idea of FPS on my gtx460 with everything maxed @1080p apart from AA which i left alone. Lowest FPS was 44 and averaged 60 so i'm well impressed. I'd have been happy with an average of 40 and lows of 20 tbh. Edit - shadow resolution normal instead of high too sorry

ah just read a post on some of the unlocks around, gonna do a few more normal missions to get them.
