Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

I followed the basic setup proceedure - everything worked perfectly aside from having to select the mobile network on my watch settings and being prompted for a reboot. I have 4g on the watch. Happy!

I didn't really have to arse about at all - i installed the wearable app from play and it did the rest :)

What phone do you have if you don't me asking - I am looking to get a 4g version for myself. I have a one plus 6T on EE so hoping it will also work?

LG G6 - EE say only Samsung devices work (that's the official line) which doesn't make sense since Samsung just insist on a minimum android version. I suspect the software side is being updated in the background since I was expecting a whole fight to setup my watch.

Nice one.

I see Wear OS H is out.

My Huawei Watch 2 Sport Smartwatch has arrived from the rainforest after the recent price reduction and an impulse buy, and I'm pretty impressed with it.

I was going to send it back on after delivery after seeing some images and realising it needed a charging cradle. But I like the round face design compared to my Sony Smartwatch 3, so I'm going to stick with it and adapt it to what I want.

A couple of questions though:
  • How easy is it to change the strap? The strap it came with is fine, but I'm interested in seeing what other options there are (if any).
  • I'm looking to get a second charging cradle for when I'm travelling. Anything I need to be aware of?
I've been googling, but the confusing Huawei naming conventions leads to confusing results, especially re. the strap.

I sent the Tichwatch E back, it felt too cheap. Still with the G Watch R. Man I can not find anything I like more than it.

I'm actually looking at the Galaxy Watch now....

If the Huawei Watch GT had an always on screen, it would be quite a nice watch.

Well, that and notifications all looking the same...

I'm similar with my s3 frontier, nothing here to replace it. Android wear sucks in my opinion and galaxy watch is not really worth upgrading to..

Hmmmm so far the only big annoyance is the lack of a dedicated email app on the GW - and this seems to be the case if you don't have a corresponding Samsung phone (are samsung just trying to be as annoying as apple?). This is a problem since the gmail app notifications from my phone only really contain the email title so you can't read any content. What a stupid design choice on Samsung's part! I'm not changing my LG G6 just for this..

.

Based on this (and the Currys black friday deal on it) I've ordered a Watch 2 as well to replace my Sony SmartWatch 3. Really fancied the TicWatch Pro but the review comments about it being laggy has put me off it.

I pick it up from the store tomorrow - I'll post my thoughts as a SM3 replacement once I've had it a few days

I've taken a punt on the Ticwatch Pro direct from Mobvoi, for £165 I thought it was worth a try.

I think I'll end up turning off the essential screen but time will tell.

It will be interesting to compare these two watches, as I think the Sony SW3 is one of the best examples of the previous generation of android wear watches, and the HW2 seems a good current example.

My first impressions of the HW2 are:
  • I like the round face, it is bright though it's smaller than I expected bearing in mind the size of the watch.
  • The cradle works OK, though I prefer the flexibility of the USB-C of the SW3.
  • The depth of the bezel hampers the touch screen. In fact, the bezel is a bit of a waste of space.
  • The physical depth of the watch on my wrist! Though I'm getting used to it.
  • The strap is OK, but I want to change it if I can.
I need to sort out a watch face that I like for the HW2 i.e. one that shows day/date/time in an analogue format. I still need to see the advantages of Wear 2.

I will probably go back to the SW3, but the HW2 seems a good watch to experiment with at the moment.

It's a shame the HWGT doesn't come with android wear, it's a really nice watch and could be so much more.

Yes, the Huawei GT looks good.

But generally, Android Wear is a wasted opportunity. The wear watches I've tried seem really good, they just don't combine style with the functionality. It says enough that I'm thinking of switching back to an ancient Sony SW3, as it just seems so much easier to use compared to the latest Huawei.

I like the style and reviews of the Fossil Explorist, but put off comments that it's not the newest chipset. Anyone using one of these?

I've got a 3rd gen one and love it.
As Wear OS has had various updates, it has gotten smoother to use and the battery sees me through a day with ease.
