Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Anyone know how i get LTE to work on the Galaxy Watch? I bought it 2nd hand i think its from EE but I'm on Vodaphone, they say they can provide it as its been added to my account but unaware.

Does this mean i can use google maps without having my phone? does it use the same data as my phone?

managed to get it in perfect condition never used for £120 which i didn't think was bad

I think it will show what direction you need to go. But not the map.
As for stand alone. Be careful as when I had a samsung watch and bought the payed StandAlone map app. It did not work.

Maybe that's changed now.

Let me know if this worked!

Just bought a Galaxy watch active to replace my Fitbit Ionic as the Ionic and my Galaxy buds don't work together properly.

Really impressed so far, much better than the Wear OS devices I've had in the past. Managed to get a new one for less than £120 which is insane value.

I have a Note 9 too which means that I'm a fully paid up member of the Samsung club but the 3 devices work together so well.

Just a couple of things which I'm not sure about.

1. Battery life. I know it needs to settle down for the first few charges but it seems like I am going to get less than 2 days from it which is rubbish compared to the Ionic which was 5+
2. The size. This is personal obvs but it's just too small, I have really big wrists and I just think it looks weird on me. Might have to rethink and go for one of the larger ones.

yup 2 days max from my active 2 :)

I don't mind as the watch is always on charge at night so as long as it lasts a day I am happy.

OS is much better than wearOS and I love the watch over-all.

Thinking of moving from my Gear 3 to the Active Watch 2? Has anyone done this.

My Gear 3 is nearly 2 years old and has been in repair once back in August, so maybe time for a upgrade?

Had the active 2 for a few weeks now. Had the active 1 for about a week on release day before I sent it back.

I've come from a Huawei watch 1 which has served me fine for a while now.

The only thing thats annoying me about the OS is the notifications.
On WearOS you would
  • swipe right to get to them
  • swipe up/down to cycle through them
  • left/right (can't remember) swipe to dismiss on each
  • If you tapped one you would open it up, then from there swipe up/down to read and (left/right) swipe to dismiss

On Tizen its different

  • right swipe to get to them
  • swipe up to dismiss
  • swipe right/left to scroll through them
  • Now if you tap into them you can't then dismiss them easily. (left/right) swipe does nothing. The only way to dismiss now is to tap the ... then gently navigate to the "Clear notification" option.
It's a similar issue with emails. If I've got multiple emails it becomes a pain. If I drill into one then hit the ... then delete it, then closes the lot and says "check phone" ahhhhhh

They need to enable the "Dismiss" swipe to the left/right when you drill into a notification,

My wife and I have just swapped our trusty iPhone 10s for Samsung Note 10s therefore rendering most of the smart features on her Apple Watch 4 and my AW 3 unusable. Been reading up on the Samsung Active Watch 2 and it looks like the best non Apple smartwatch.

Will be getting her 1 for christmas and will treat myself to one at some point. What is unfortunate though(If I have been reading right) is that in order to buy the stainless steal one I have to by the LTE option?

The Samsung Active Watch 2 looks good. I'm still using an ancient Sony SmartWatch 3 and I'm looking to upgrade.

The things I'm looking for are an 'always on' watchface, compatibility with Google Play Music and City Mapper as well as something like Watchmaker Pro to let me design my own faces. Does the Samsung fit that?

Does anyone use a Garmin Vivoactive 4, or similar? I've started jogging recently and wonder if it's worth heading over to fitness tracker type watch, over traditional Wear OS smartwatch? I assume for it to play music, you have to put MP3's on it... like it was 2006 or something? :)

I'm in the market for a new watch as my Ticwatch E Shadow has just bit the dust (well actually the sweat not dust), the back has come of and now the screen wont function correctly :( Any advice on where to spend my money? I'm looking for a fitness tracker (Google Fit) with text/WhatsApp/call abilities, anyone have a suggestion?

It turns out that any traditional 20mm watch band will fit the Sammy GWA2. I've been looking for a couple for myself (1 silicon/rubber for daily use and a nicer leather one).

So far my favs are:

had my watch active 2 since release, I like it.. fits the bill and it's a nice side-grade from my s3 frontier that was beat up.

there are a couple of things that I disliked/felt had to be disabled:

The touch bezel, constantly triggered it by accident just by sitting, clothes touching etc(glove touch off too) had to disable it sadly, even if it's a good feature it ended up messing with the watch constantly
Screen - because it is so "exposed" it seems to pick touches from everything, cross your arms and bam it triggers it.. can get very annoying.

other than that it has been great, 2 day battery life, great screen, not massive/bulky and looks quite "minimalistic"

My watch active isn't great for running. I use Strava and I can hardly see it as the writing is too small so I cant check my pace properly.

When I can check my pace its wrong. For example I was running last night and I looked at the watch and it was saying my pace was 6mins per KM which it definitely didn't feel like! When the 1km buzz came up I had done a 4.20min KM!

If I use the Samsung app rather than the Strava app it is a lot better but then it doesn't upload to Strava!

The other really frustrating thing is that I bought Galaxy buds to run in as they should all work together with my Note 9 but when I use the watch for music the quality is appalling. It sounds like either the connection is poor or the music is in slow motion. (maybe like the processor can't cope with playing an MP3 and using GPS at the same time)

Its massively winding me up is there any fix or should I just junk it and go an buy a new Garmin?

I have the galaxy watch and the samsung buds. Have noticed no issues using either. Last time I went on a run I had GPS on and spotify playing for well over an hour. Zero issues.
