Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

If it's been great then why change to the pixel watch?
Pixel watch is a free gift coming with the Pixel 7 Pro I ordered.

The GT2 works well with my Huawei Mate 20 Pro due to compatible software. I won't be installing anything Huawei on my P7 Pro and so I'd imagine that would limit the GT2 a little.

The Pixel watch also seems to be better at everything except from battery life.

Has anyone come across hybrid watches? Normal/analogue watches but with some smart features like buzzing on notification, time zone adjustment, step count etc. Never knew they were a thing until a few days ago and now quite intrigued. The Kronaby ones in particular look nice to me. No idea how they are regarded generally though as didn't even know this existed!

Friend of mine has one, a Fossil. He likes it as he's not 100% set on full on smart watches. Hands move to 12 for notifications for example.

Not my thing but I see why some like them.

You should have a look at Withings. Some of their models looks like regular watches, but have a small digital screen as well. They seem to be pushing fitness/health tracking as their main goal. I'm definitely looking into a hybrid myself as my current smart one seems wasted. Which is why I've been looking at Withings as they seem to have that analogue feel to them, but with built in health tracking and a small screen for basic info.

Yup I have the steel watch... Using it for many years.

Thanks both - they came up a lot in research and took another look at Withings, but don't love the look as doesn't quite look like a 'standard' watch to me. Something like the Kronaby ones appeal a lot more looks wise, but are a lot more expensive and don't seem to have a ton of reviews etc., which makes me nervous about spending a lot on an unknown.

Fossil and Skagen also seem intersting and a bit more of a middle ground, with an e-ink screen.

Which Amazfit device?

I'm currently using an Amazfit Band 5 which had been brilliant, but I'm starting to find the screen a little too small as my eyes get older, so I'm looking for a larger replacement.

I like the Amazfit/Zepp/Notify ecosystem, so I'd like to stick with the brand, but there are so many similar options.

I mainly use the band to log my steps and sleep (shift worker), but extra features could be nice too.

Think I've narrowed it down to :-

Band 7
Bip U Pro
GTS 2 Mini
Bip 3 Pro

Any opinions please? Cheers.

The mrs wants a new Samsung watch. Her phone is usually buried in the bottom of her (Sport billy, Showing my age) handbag.
46mm seems quiet large for a watch for the mrs.

Any thoughts?

The 5 Pro or watch 4 classic 46mm is a bit large for a ladies wrist , my wife has the 42mm silver watch 4 classic and she is classed as petite and it look fine . You can get 5 in 40mm none pro version

the 42mm classic is great for small wrists. perfect size and a pity that it is not in the 5 series range but who knows poor sales atm of the 5 series and disappointed users may just bring back the rotating Bezels in the series 6 :)

Are any of the smartwatches able to log rowing machine workouts at all? I appreciate the distance will be an issue but what about stroke etc?

Not sure if the sensors can detect the motion
HI,

I have a concept2 rower and Skierg at home and use a Samsung watch 4 with it at the moment, it works for both although I find calories burned a little low on the Rower but it's pretty much spot on for the Skierg and weights.

Is that with the watch connected to the rower? I dont have a Concept2 rower.

I was looking/hoping that the watch can detect the movement on the rower so it can monitor time and stroke rates a bit like it can do for steps and cadence with running... I know it can't measure distance as that depends on effort applied and not just a stroke length X number of stroke calculation

Nope , I don't connect it to the onboard Computer, I just set it to "indoor rower" on my wrist and off I go .

It records movement but it's not 100% accurate but pretty good to be fair, only way you will be 100% accurate it by connecting into the rower and have a heart monitor around your chest.

It's good enough though and when I do HiiT workouts on the rower it tracks pretty well , strokes are counted as steps combined with the BPM readings.

I've an early Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and received a software update last week that bricked the watch, seems fairly common (50/50 chance of it happening some are saying) from searching the internet. Gone to Fonfix for repairs, seemingly the mainboard needs to be replaced. Also stories of Samsung not replacing them in the US and making people pay for the repair
