Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Looking to get my first smart watch. I'm not big on lots of exercise, partly as I have a couple of heart conditions and asthma, so I'm looking to track general health including stress and sleep as the quality of those impact the other conditions. I have a separate ECG device already, but it would be good to have something on my wrist to save carrying that around when I'm out and about. Trying to choose between the Huawei GT4 (really like the look and it's not expensive compared to the others,) Galaxy Watch 7 (looks good, my phone is a Galaxy too) and Pixel Watch 3 (cause of the Fitbit integration, not quite as sold on the look though.)

Almost wish I'd never sen the name Quantified Scientist on this thread cause I've gone down the rabbit hole of looking at what's the most accurate and that hasn't made the decision any easier! Seems the pixel watch 3 is the best heart and sleep tracker but is the most expensive (though I have a 25% off discount which makes it more or less the same price as the GW7), the GW 7 is ok at everything but master of none but at least there's no paywall, and the Huawei is an excellent heart tracker but not a great sleep tracker, but it the cheapest up front.

What would be peoples thoughts amongst these three, or anythhing else that comes to mind as a recommendation?

Have you looked at the Galaxy watch 6 as it is getting a software update with the same features as the watch 7 within a month ? , watch 6 classic is more of a traditional looking watch with a bezel .

What I will say about sleep tracking is [for me] it might as well be made up. It seems that if you lay reasonably still while trying to fall asleep it counts that as sleep. I've had many bad nights where I've been up most of the night where it's categorised it as good sleep. I think that even raising my arm and physically pressing the button on the watch to check the time on those bad nights hasn't really helped it.

It does better if you move about a bit but my sleep technique is to fake it till I make it and I lay like a vampire so no surprise it can't tell the difference. This is on my GW4 but suspect it would be similar across the board. Obviously your milage may vary if you're not as weird as I am.

Wasn't a fan of the 6 Classic, at least not in the silver watch with cream strap my local store had in stock. I guess I just preferred the flatter layout of the 6 and 7, even though the Classic looks perfectly nice on the Samsung website. I think the Huawei is the nicest looking of the watches I saw in store, even in green which I didn't expect to like as much as I did. While it looks great, the ecosystem and not so good sleep tracking kinda puts me off a little. But I still can't bring myself to rule it out. Weird that I liked the GT4 but not the Classic even though they both have a more traditional watch style bezel and that's similar to my current analogue watch.

Between the GW7 and PW3, I think the design of the GW7 is possibly nicer, maybe, possibly because the way the body flows to the strap connectors looks closer to what I have just now. As my daughter pointed out the screen is less likely to get scratched than the PW3, but it the tradeoff of not-quite-so-good-tracking is a downer, but then so is the need for Premium to get all the metrics from Fitbit....

Decisions, decisions....
Sigh....

I fall asleep as soon as my head hits teh pillow so I don't think that will be a problem for me :D

I've had the GT 3 pro for several years, but lost it at a gig a couple of weeks back. I couldn't fault it as a watch... Absolutely brilliant. The battery life was what swayed it for me over the other more well known watches. Charging every day or so would pee me right off now.

The only thing I would say is that the Huawei watches arent fully smart. That was fine for me as I just wanted to track my sleep/health/gym sessions and tell the time. It nails it for that.

My current dilemma is whether to go for the GT 5 Pro or a Garmin 965 (with discount to bring it around the same price).

I've been thinking about my first one for sleep tracking too. Just from reading about different states of sleep and overall quality of sleep. There seems to be a huge range in accuracy of these devices though. I'm looking at a Fitbit Inspire 3 right now as it seems to be reasonably priced and reviews give the thumbs up on accuracy.

Is anyone able to offer some advice on the best place to sell a Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 51mm? Got one to replace my aging Fenix 5 back in July, unfortunately the screen stopped working which I believe is not common through research, however because of the age of the device Garmin are sending me out a new boxed replacement. Thinking if I can get enough for it I would rather go to the newer Fenix model, which typically came out a month or two after I made the purchase.

Stick it on eBay now there's no fees.

FB Marketplace is not a bad place either as long as you do face to face transactions and are ok being quoted 50% of the price by low-ballers.

Just ordered a Samsung ultra watch and the missus a samsung watch 7.

Never really fancied one, but lately been tempted, so we thought we'd give them a go!

Bought second hand, so a bit cheaper.

I was given an old Xiaomi band 5 so I can at least get a feel for the smart watch experience.

I've still got my eye on a Fitbit for the sleep tracking and maybe some general fitness stuff. Black Friday is just around the corner too.
