Smoking...

So his workout thread states he's 16! GOD almighty!!!! how can a 16yo be that stressed that they need nicotine? You're only at college too? God help you if you want to be a copper like you've stated in previous threads! Every con would outrun you before youve even got out the car!

Yeah, OP is 16, the same age as me. Stop now how can your parents allow you to do this? I assume they don't know.

Forget how bad it is for you and ask yourself how inconsiderate and selfish are you being towards everyone else?

This argument annoys me, as smokers always seem to get criminalised for a lifestyle choice, you don't need to stnd near a smoker, why should they have to move for you?

I thought the thread where he wanted to be a bodyguard is where the shark was well and truly jumped.

A personal favourite of mine.

Time magazine called it 'a stark reminder of the frailities and challenges of youth, like watching a rabbit dying on a medical table, the pain and fear almost unbearable. Devastatingly beautiful.'

16 and taking up smoking? Pretty damn stupid IMHO, waste of money and your health for what benefit exactly?

That and tobacco is a gateway drug. You will be on meth by Christmas.

A smoker lives above me. He smokes outside a window. That smokes then blows right inside my window. I get to second hand smoke every night while trying to fall asleep. Good times.

As for OP, cigarets are bad, more so when you're still physically developing. Try physical workout for stress release but don't make a terrible mistake of starting a very bad habit.

This attitude annoys me more.

If I am walking down the street and it's busy I have little choice but to walk down a narrow path and breathe in the smoke from a smoker.

Another example is when I walk to the station to get to work. There is a back entrance and I am forced to run through a gauntlet of 5+ smokers every morning. You breathe the smoke in and it gets on my clothes. I can't avoid this.

Smoking is incredibly selfish and the smoking ban was fantastic for non-smokers. If only smoking can be banned within x yards of a public place. If you want to do it in your home then go ahead, but I don't want it anywhere near me. Disgusting.

I live by a hospital and pass it every day to go to work, at lunchtime. The cleaning staff all surround this one tiny gate to get their fix ... the gate leading to the maternity ward and pre-natal classes. Awesome.

I started aged 14, by the time I was 35 I'd promised my mum I would cut down. From 60 a day one day, to 2 a day the next - and kept it at that level for 2 years now. One on the way to work, one on the way home. I just did it by leaving my cigs in the car, not ever bringing them inside.
And my doctor says that is just fine, she smokes 5 a day or so and specialises in helping people quit.

Well done on cutting down but that doctor is hardly setting an example, is she?

2 per day is probably just enough to satisfy the cravings the addiction to nicotine causes. Why not go for it and quit altogether?

I'd be more concerned about breathing the exhaust fumes from cars and diesel trains to be quite honest!

Smoker = chump. You know it's bad for you, you know that it's a carcinogen. You know that it makes you stink, you know that it effects everyone around you. If you do it then frankly you're a selfish moron.

funny, 2 years ago I was in a similar situation to the op, now i'm on about 30 a day. you hear all the advice and ignore it because 'well obviously I can quit any time I like', you'll find you can either stop now or you can stop 40 odd years down the line when your doctor tells you it's that or die. of course by then the damage is done isn't it.

I relapsed so many times just smoking a couple a day.

I basically only have one or two down the pub on occasion now and don't think about it the rest of the time.
