SNES Mini Classic

My feeling is that they're throttling stock to push people to buy a switch and virtual console games. Either they're pretty crafty or they have no idea how to meet demand, or don't care to.

Just like many others, I missed the boat in respect to initial Pre-orders. :(

My intention was to purchase two, one for myself and a gift for my best mate. We are not proud but skipping School to play Mario-Kart (memories priceless).

I do hope that more stock will become available in time, if not, surely from a PR perspective it will backfire?

Tamiya RC cars have for the past few years re-released their back catalogue (Lunchbox, Hornet etc) which directly appeals to nostalgia and owners of the originals. For Tamiya, I cant help feel that this was a saving grace, otherwise Tamiya were at a real risk of being out-classed by competitors.

I love me a bit of Nintendo but I don't doubt for one second that they aren't being crafty beggers.

Sometimes they have principles and just seemingly don't want to make money, take Mario Run, all signs points to in game currency to make the most money but they decide to do a fixed price game and it earn less than expected.

Here's a thing. It has a limited run. Buy it if you want it. People clearly want it and then some. Possibly they'll re-evaluate their supply based on this demand. Possibly not.

except thats not the case, if you want it you more than likely cannot get it, at least at RRP pricing.

There is nothing wrong with limited runs, but this is different, this is simply not able to meet pre order demand, its 3 months before it even ships.

Nintendo have a history of under supplying, there is clearly a constant with how nintendo run their business that causes these issues.

What they should have done is given a deadline to order by 29 sept, they accept "all" orders made before that date, then its shut up shop, thats it. A 3 month window to get a limited product is reasonable enough. After the last unit is made to fulfill all these pre orders thats the limited run over. Simple really.

However if you read the article I supplied, there is also a well written polygon article written during the mini nes fiasco, it seems these 2 products are just to raise brand awareness and they be towards a plan to hype up VC on switches, which will be more profitable for nintendo and push more switch units out the doors.

Managed to jump on this and got my pre order secured :)

As others have already said however this is classic Nintendo - as much as I love the big N they always seem to manufacture demand by under stocking retailers etc - it's been the same for nearly every single new Nintendo product since the launch of the Wii, shame really :(

I don't think it helps either that Rain forest allowed half of America to order their allocation for the UK. Seeing on other forums the amount of yanks with UK pre orders is insane. They should be cancelled imo as America will in time get a much bigger allocation then we got.

Amazon wouldn't care because the Yanks are paying more to ship from the UK. More money for them.

I'd have thought most Americans would have wanted the American version tbh. Nostalgia is half of the appeal, though the Euro version does look much nicer I guess.

Why did Nintendo make two versions? And why did they ever not think to release the European version everywhere, it was much nicer!

Yeah that NES-101 design is awful.
On the SNES front, still prefer the US SNES styling to the Super Famicom / Euro SNES.

edit: and I agree with Nintendo's product design director about his views about the look of the super famicom.... "I though the Super Famicom didn't look good when stacked and even by itself, had a kind of "bag of bread" look".

Urgghhh!

holding page is up on argos again.

Also says accepting orders soon, of course no timescale is given that would be too logical, so people who win out are likely using automated tools or just refreshing constantly.

This is bizarre given argos cancelled a load of orders.

Also I agree reference the Americans, the USA allocation is probably going to be close to 10x larger, but because we got the pre orders first they swamped the uk stores I expect.

Game uk decided to allocate 90% of their stock to stores only.

I really don't like the US style SNES, far too angular and boxy for me. The U.K. And JDM version is much nicer IMO.

I agree but that's probably because I grew up with it, is funny to hear so many US folks say how much they love the look of their one, I even read people saying the colour scheme on the US is better, crazy talk!
