Snow chains - they don't work

Could be worse, look what I saw on Retro-Rides today:

Not some kind of weird brake test is it? Or just very simply a windup :)

Why do BMW even bother making their run of the mill cars RWD? For an M series or sports convertible where they are supposed to be driven at speed or twisty roads, RWD is the way to go, but a family diesel or company barge, no point at all.

The amount of stranded beemers i've seen in the last few days is a joke, and it must **** the owners off when they get stuck and see everyone else NOT in a BMW getting past without too much difficulty.

Its sod all to do with BMW or any other marque tbh, its , 9 times out of 10 , (imo) the clueless drivers who have no idea how to drive in the snow.

A bit like the earlier comment "I floor it and the T/C takes over in 1st gear" or words to that effect, exactly, the driver floors it, but what does the T/C to to counter? it backs off the throttle.....

It comers back to the 1 Series drivers who put snow chain on the front wheels.....

You see it everywhere in these conditions, wheels spinning away, engines screaming and puzzled drivers wondering why their shiny BMW (or whatever) won't move.

Ignorance.

Until somebody grasps the nettle and dramatically broadens the training & education required to obtain a driving licence, the situation will not improve.

T/C usually only works above 5 or 10mph. So not sure where this idea has come from that it is useful for getting the car rolling on snow?

Maybe cars with ESP, the full works, are more advanced?

Because having the same car available in both FWD and RWD form depending on trim level is expensive and counter productive. There is every point in all BMW's (Bar the 4wd ones obivously) being RWD - it's part of the point. RWD is better suited for larger cars anyway, FWD is an inherent compromise.

RWD is simply better.
