Snowden files 'show massive UK spying op'

According to WikiLeaks, Snowden has requested asylum from Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, China, Cuba, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Venezuela.

Anyone....

Remember that emails and telephone calls of an Al-Queda courier were integral to discovering the location of Osama bin Laden and his subsequent assassination.

Presumably though, it would be fairly easy to get a formally approved warrant to monitor the communications of an Al-Qaeda courier... I assume they didn't find him by trawling facebook?

I already know my name is in a file somewhere thanks to my mates job..he had to list known associates, and he named me and my missus - due to the nature of his work and what he handles so I assume somebody has already looked into my life to make sure I am no risk to him or his line of work

he did say he was very disappointed when the intelligence analyst came to see him..he was expecting a spy but got what was essentially a civil servant in a vauxhall vectra

That's what they want you to think. Little did you know, there was a spare vacuum packed tuxedo, chilled champagne, two glasses and a suppressed Walther PPK in the boot

surely a political assassination is done in secret..you know..to avoid conspiracies like this

I am sure a shadowy govt agency could just make him vanish one day and his body never be found...why leave it so open to public scrutiny?

they managed to make people vanish in places like chile and el salvador..you would have thought the US govt with all its resources could make a better effort than the old fake car crash

I get the distinct impression this guy might be up that creek without a paddle.

Lots of countries saying they won't even consider asylum until he's physically on their soil, and what they're not also saying is whether they'd arrest him and deport him instead :p

The bloke is standing in the middle of a minefield at the moment, trying to map his way out. Chances are good it won't end the way he wants.

Whistle blowing generally isn't considered a crime.

Well, it's extremely complicated, in the US at least. There is some protection for whistleblowers, but when you're talking national defense then all bets are off.

Personally I think the guy is a legend, and it's deeply ironic that he's being hunted down for warning people their freedoms are under attack.....by the people supposedly charged with protecting said freedoms.

giving away state secrets you have been trusted with is

the whole point of trusting people with this information is that if they then publish your secrets you can punish them with the law
its not up to the individual to decide what to publish in public

dont like the rules dont sign up for the job

lets face it if he had actually uncovered something terrible / illegal then it would not be in the USA's interest to punish him for speaking out (because it would just make them look worse)
